Hi Amanda, Please do not take anything I say in this message as a personal attack. I am just very frustrated with Hughesnet and I am seriously thinking about changing internet providers. I pay $91 a month for the 50gb, 50gb plan. I have never used all my data because the performance is so slow at night. In fact many months I use more Bonus bytes than Anytime data. The internet was our main source of entertainment, but that is no longer the case Issue 1. Internet Gaming. When I signed up the advertising material said my plan was suitable for playing games on the internet. I immediately found that games were unplayable at night. I found that if I got up at 4:30 am the ping or lag would be in the 625 to 700 ms range. This made playing games hard but manageable. It did seriously detract from the enjoyment. I did some research and found this is a limitation of satellite technology. However on the weekends or holidays when I had more free time, the ping would go well over a second by 8 am which made everything unplayable. On weekdays the situation was a little better I could usually play until I had to start my workday. However as I said any later in the day the lag was such that gaming is impossible. Lately, the last couple of weeks, even on weekdays the lag goes well over a second by 7 am. I feel like a fool for paying $91 a month for something that makes me get up hours early just to use, but I am not going to start getting up at 2 am. Issue 2. Multiple Users. In a word no! Other than the early hours of the morning when I am the only one stupid enough to be up just to use the internet this does not work. Issue 3. Watching video when we have time to do so. Most nights the service is to slow to watch videos, night is the time when we have the free time to watch videos. This has caused serious conflict in my family. Not only can we not each watch what we want, we cannot even watch one thing. Lately some nights the service has been so slow, 600 to 800 kbs that I have had a hard time downloading the information I need to do my taxes. Issue 4. Fixing problems. Every other internet provider I have had has quickly responded and fixed any problems that occurred. Summation. I am the only person in my family getting any use out of the internet. That is only because I get up at a ridiculous hour before my workday starts. Even that is now starting to fail. If all I can do is check my email and order things online I can do that in town for free. Please my internet needs to work better or I will cancel it at the end of the month.
