Video Data Saver missing...

My Video Data Saver is missing tonight.  I power cycled the modem and restarted my computer.  Neither helped.  It's not in the Usage Meter or the myAccount site.  Anyone else having this issue?

  • Hi Gabe,

Thank you for letting us know. I apologize this is happening again. I will have this escalated for you.

    Thanks,

    *Felicia*

  • Hi Gabe,

Our devs checked the VDS config stuff in the background and say all look correct. Can you please let me know if the setting is there now? Please log out fully before logging back in to check. Might as well clear the browser cache as well to be on the safe side.

If it's still missing, please take a screenshot so I can send to the devs. Thank you!

Mine has been a bit bonkers lately. The snooze option clock starts at 9 hours instead of 4. Maybe it has started celebrating the holidays a bit early.

Hah. I didn't check the snooze button before. Yep, mine also starts at 9 hours.

      How odd.

Mine's still not showing.  Because I'm in and out, I'm going to do something I normally never do, and that's leave my modem plugged in just in case a rep sees this thread and needs to check something.  It's snowing really sloppy stuff here, so I've had to clean off my HughesNet and DirecTV dishes repeatedly today, so if a remote diagnosis is tried, but no communication is seen, it's because the dish is covered with snow again and I'm not here to clean it.  But, again, I'll leave it plugged it.  I'm going to shut both WiFi radios off, though.  :p

I also checked the myAccount site again and the VDS still isn't there, either.

Edit:  I should add that I twice checked my speed at fast.com and it topped out at 3.1Mbps both times, so the VDS is definitely still on and working.  I just can't snooze it or turn it off if I want to.  :(  Fast.com is a good site to check if your VDS is doing its job.  It's the only speed test I know that mimics streaming, causing the VDS to kick in.  It makes sense with it being owned by Netflix.  :smileywink:

Any ideas?  I was contemplating streaming a little from HBO on Thanksgiving, but I won't be able to do so if I can't snooze the VDS.

How weird. I just checked the meter on my laptop and it's there.  Could removing the folder and then restarting the meter make a difference (edit: that is, bring it back)?

  • Just switched from Gen4 to Gen5.

2 hours of new Net, I don't see any Video Data Saving, or Settings or Video Settings. It should be there, under the "My Account", but it's not there. I tried to contact Customers Service on chat, but they just gave a phone number. I don't see how talking on phone is better than telling on Chat what that problem is. Either way, if so many people are complaining about it for weeks and week, yet I see no Technician addressing the issue, then it looks like a serious problem. :-/

I understand that you're new to the Community, but the widespread issue, which just started within the last day or two, IS being addressed, as is referenced In the Announcement area of the main page of the Community.  Engineers ARE working on it.

At the same time, the issue which caused me to start this thread was not common.  Until the present issue, I'd hardly call three people over a two month period "so many people."  And, as you'll notice in this thread, the Engineers were, in fact, addressing it.

Likely a simple database access/privileges error. There have been other things that seem to pop in and out in the past, just not as noticable.

  • So far, I never seen that video data saving thing. 4 days passed, but the Settings didn't show up, so far. :-(

Give them time to work on the issue -- they will fix it, but it may take longer than 4 days.

Thanks for the update Steve, I'll let the engineers know. Perhaps they can use your site as part of their current investigation.

Thank you, the settings showed up on the page today.

        It's kinda confusing though.

        It says:

"This setting will automatically stream videos in DVD quality which uses less of your Data. When enabled, you can stream up to 3 times more video."

I watch videos in 144p and 360p. So how is watching videos in 480p uses less data than watching videos in 144p or 360p?

I have a feeling that it's not what I was hoping for, and the Data Saver Info FAQ is not telling what it is really. Is it just not letting a video player play anything in HD? If it is, then it's useless for me, as I never played anything in HD anyways, since I moved out a house with Cable Internet.

Or this Data Saver setting gives more speed post-data cap reaching? I was hoping for something like that.
