Different router than hughesnet

Is it possible to use a different router with my Hughes net internet service. Currently I have the HT3000 but was looking to use a stronger router possibly?

  • Renzo,

Thanks for reaching out! You're able to attach an external router to your Hughesnet system if you'd like. However, as maratsade stated, external routers won't change your latency, and may in some cases cause issues regarding connectivity.

    Thanks,

    Remy

You have to use the HN modem, but I think you can add another router.

Okay thank you. I was doing some research and saw where it was saying in general one could use a router of their choosing. The real question is even though hughesnet is kind of slow if I did upgrade my router to lets say a top tier router would that make a difference?

I think you can add a router, but at least as far as I remember, you have to use theirs (edit: to receive the signal, I mean). I may be wrong, though, which is why I hope one of the reps here will reply and give you the right answer.  I don't think a top tier router would change the latency inherent in the satellite signal, though.
