I have been trying to play a game, but it keeps kicking me out saying upnp is unavailable.

Have you been able to play this game before?
Is this with Xbox?
Yes. Before I got hughes net, I was able to play this game and yes It is with Xbox.

I imagine that before Hughesnet you had something else that wasn't satellite, and this may be the reason the game isn't playing. It may be a latency issue. Hopefully a mod or another subscriber will reply to this and give you more information, but in the meantime, you may want to ask the Xbox community. I'm sure there are a lot of people there who also have satellite internet. Good luck!

This may be a silly question, but: Did you enable UPnP on your wifi?
1. Using a browser on the network, go to http://192.168.42.1 (has to be http, not https, so Firefox may not work. Latest Firefox wants everything to be https and will relentlessly try to convert it 🤷♂️).
2. Login to the wifi settings (default password is just 'admin' if you haven't changed it).
3. Select the Advanced options, then select UPnP towards the bottom.
4. Check the box and click Save. You should now have UPnP enabled.
That said, I have an XBox 360. I've never really needed it to be operational and have been able to use XBox Live, although I've never played anything PvP through it.
If you are trying to play PvP games, standard satellite may be too laggy, since the fastest possible ping time is something like 500mS. You may want to look into upgrading to Fusion, which augments satellite with wireless technology to significantly reduce the lag.

That's weird. I have a HT3000 now and it was also on my HT2000.

Disregard the 'http using Firefox' comment. Turns out I didn't have Local Network access turned on for Firefox nor Chrome, and anything attempting to go to 192.168.42.* was getting blocked (but not 192.168.0.* or 192.168.10.*, which is very interesting).
