Re: Who's NOT upgrading to Gen5?
Netflix is easily playable on gen 5. Even when you run out of data, the speeds I have seen are around 3mbps. This allows me to stream standard quality Netflix and other streaming services with no problems at all. I upgraded from gen 4, which my contract had already elapsed, and was required to make a new two year contract. As for the last part, much like Corrosive said, the chances of this happening within a few years is small. The new satellite has a very high capacity, enough to alleviate users on the older satellites in addition to briniging in customers without congesting the satellite for several years. For now, it is no where close to being congested, and is most likely 5+ years away from that point. Even the 40 Mbps+ speeds most of us are seeing now will stay take a while before enough users have been added to have it drop to the advertised speeds of 25Mbps.10KViews0likes0CommentsRe: FAP speeds for gen 5?
I've heard similar, but I'm looking forward to in depth testing. Since I was a existing customer they did not provide me a 20-day reset, and they also did not reset my billing dates to match the install date, so I've been contemplating just using it all up since I wont have to deal with FAP just for a few days. Assuming you dont beat me and no one else reaches it first I am going to have it automatically schedule a speed test every hour and post the results when it's done.5.3KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Opinions on the built in wifi for gen 5?
I am using a Panda PAU06. I've also tried a old Belkin adapter I had laying around but it did the same. I've made sure all my network drivers are updated including windows 10, I've also turned the router off and back on again in addition to restaring my computer with no success. I believe the problem at this point has to be either the router or my computer settings.17KViews0likes6CommentsOpinions on the built in wifi for gen 5?
I just got gen5 today, and while the service itself is excellent, I'm a bit skeptical of the wifi. We have one of our desktops across the house that always worked by using a USB wifi adapter and never had any problems until we switched to the new modem. Now, every 10-15 minutes the wifi will drop for about 1 minute. I've tried all the power saving settings and made sure it had good signal. Is anyone else experiencing this? Also I havent noticed the problem on my phone, so this could just be a case of my adapter not liking the router, if that's possible.Solved17KViews0likes11CommentsRe: Will Gen 5 throttled speeds be faster than current gen 4 speeds?
Seems as if no one really knows the speed, though that answer sounds far more realistic. Hopefully within the coming days we'll see people post results. Hopefully we don't have dropped connections either, I know this is basically our version of Exedes liberty plan, and from what I read they have issues with dropped connections and extremely slow speeds during prime time.7.4KViews0likes0Comments
