As a matter of fact, Excede was supposed to launch a new satellite(Viasat 2) this month but it has been postponed due to the ongoing protests in French Guiana where the launch was to take place. So, that will delay their new service for several months most likely. Viasat owns Exced simliar to Echostar owning Hughesnet. They both make their own birds for service for the most part. Re: What about my upgrade? Yes, if you were installed that long back then you are on one of the older satellites. In order for Gen5 speeds you will need to, at minimum, have your dish pointed to the new Jupiter 2 satellite Echostar 19. You may need a different modem too. Eventually Echostar 17will support Gen5 service and speeds, but not yet from what I understand. Perhaps one of the mods will be able to help you out in regards to your specific situation. Also, the Gen5 plans are not all the same as the old plans, so there may be something to look at there as well. Re: New Gen 5 If that is where you are physically locatd then yes, you should be in Echostar 19/Jupiter 2 range. Re: Rut Ro...Someone is Mad :o Thanks, I am sure you are right about there being a lot of reasons to upgrade. I will be a new Hughesnet user on Gen5, so I did not have Gen4 service which is why it interests me. :) Re: Rut Ro...Someone is Mad :o Out of interest, if you were getting good speeds on your Gen4 service why did you upgade to Gen5? Re: New Gen 5 Love the map, would there be any way to see the coverage of Spaceway 3 for those of us that are intereted? *edit* never mind, I found the satbeams website. :) Re: GEN-5 Speed faster than advertised PowerPC all the way! Man, all that info reminds me of the Intel vs PowerPC debate. We all know who won that, but in my uses PowerPC was a superior processor, they just could not keep up with the heat being produced on the higher end G5 and then mobile computing on a G5 never really panned out. Too bad, I liked it. I personally am an AMD fan as well...but stuck using an i5 at work. Re: Streaming experience.... Thanks for the comprehensive answer! That is just what I was looking for. Re: Streaming experience.... Out of curiosity, how much data do you use, approximately? Re: GEN-5 Speed faster than advertised I am not sure if anyone has gone through their data for the month yet, but are there any stats on what the speed is once you pop your cap on Gen5?
