I received an email saying the Usage Meter was being retired!! Why would HughesNet retire the Usage Meter????? This is the dumbest decision I could imagine. I now have an icon in my Mac's menu bar that I can click on to immediately give me access to usage and other information. HughesNet is now forcing me to use a smartphone app to get the same information. Who has a smartphone running next to their computer? I don't even get a cellphone signal at my home. Or else I have to have a web browser running and log into my HughesNet account which isn't nearly as convenient. How can we get HughesNet to continue to support the Usage Meter?

I just set up a Gen5 HT2000W modem and an Airport Extreme (similar to your Timecapsule.) The configuration I wound up with was much like yours, and has been working fine. I have two Airport Expresses on the LAN which are working well. One configuration I tried was attaching a gigabit ethernet switch to the HT2000W, and conncecting the AE, other computers, and printer to the switch. That seemed to work, but I didn't test it thoroughly. I didn't see any advantage over directly connecting the AE to the HT2000W and connecting the LAN to the the ethernet ports on the AE, as you are doing. I was having problems getting web sites to load until I made sure the "DNS Servers" in the Network System Preferences was set to 192.168.0.1 (the HT2000W). I'd suggest sticking with your current setup and tweak it if necessary to get things working better.

I imagine you've already answered your own question since your post was made on May 16. However, I just had HughesNet Gen5 installed. I disabled both WiFi channels in the HT2000W. I plugged my Airport Extreme into the HT2000W via an ethernet cable. I had to change the Airport Extreme’s "Router Mode" in the "Network" tab to "Off (Bridge Mode)." The HT2000W is handling NAT which apparently can’t be turned off, so I was getting a double NAT error on the Airport Extreme. I'm using both WiFi channels on the Airport Extreme. On the Airport Extreme's "Internet" tab I've got "Connect Using" set to "DHCP” which gets addresses from the HT2000W. In the Mac's "System Preferences" > "Network" > “Ethernet” > “Advanced…” button > DNS tab I've got the DNS Server set to 192.168.0.1 (the HT2000W address.) In the HT2000W “WiFi Settings” > “Advanced Setup” > “DNS” I’ve got “Obtain from ISP” checkbox selected. I’ve got a Netgear gigabit ethernet switch connected to the Airport Extreme and have computers and a printer plugged into the switch. I have other computers plugged into the Airport Express. Everything on my LAN is connected via the Airport Express. Hope that gives you some idea of how I’m using Gen5. It took a few tweaks to get things working as I expected, but so far I’m happy with the lower cost, and higher speed compared to my former Exede satellite ISP.
