In the pull down settings for Chrome (upper right) set it to show the Desktop version of page. See if that works.

Sure, a few people on a beam with a 3/3 unlimited plan might not impact much but......multiply that by hundreds, maybe thousands, then you're talking huge impact. Many would simply load up their download managers and download 24/7 all month long. Of course eventially it would cascade and 3/3 wouldn't be obtainable consistantly either.

IMO there really is no reason to get the Windows desktop app unless you have no Android or iOS device to setup and record videos. As has been stated, then you can get the download link and use your browser or DLM to do the download. No desktop app needed unless you have nothing else to access and setup and schedule the recording.

Here is a good WikiHow on it: https://www.wikihow.com/Connect-Two-Routers You should be doing the LAN to LAN connection and don't change any DHCP settings on the HughesNet modem/router. PS: Are you setting it up and testing with a short cable first before moving to the long one?

People on Internet service that has plan limits before being throttled really need to educate themselves on how much data things use, especially video streaming. Really not much different than monitoring a cell phone data plan. Knowing how much things use would flag in a person's mind that something is going on for the first 20 days of new service when use resets each day.

Hi @rbhowell . Without going into a bunch of technical stuff the short answer is even the highest plan on satellite Internet is not meant to be a cord cutter service where you can move all your TV and movie viewing to it. There is not enough monthly data available to do all that. Plus because of the delay caused by going through a satellite some people experience problems when streaming video especially at higher definitions. So no, it is not recommended to use HughesNet for all your TV and movie watching unless you do very little of both and do it at lower definition, as in lower video quality. Even at lower quality 50 GB (Gigabytes) will not last long if doing a lot of video streaming. EDIT: Mark beat me to it while I was typing.

I'm not sure what you are saying about moving the modem. Did you move to another house and just plug in the modem without a tech moving the dish and updating the service for the new location? Confused about what exactly you did. So you have updated service but the modem is stuck?

To clarify, I wasn't referring to "doing it" as posting it here getting into trouble, I was meaning actually connecting a portable generator in such a way. Kinda doubt posting the steps here will bring civil action by the power company. Again, just something I personally wouldn't share as backfeeding is already widely addressed on the Internet and so are the laws.

One thing to do this on the hush but to publicly post it is not something I would do. I'm pretty certain doing it can get you in a LOT of trouble in many places if ever caught or especially if something serious results. I'm sure you'll want to tell me I'm wrong now.

Yes, there is DC power supplied by the modem going through the coax to power the radio on the dish. Under certain situations the modem can be damaged if the power is shorted out. There are protections built in but they don't always work. Also one reason we say to power down the modem from the wall receptacle, not the plug on the back of the modem.

@GabeU , you're probably right, more than just the average users checking their speed, I thought the same. Noticed Kimberly seems to be running the timed automatic test at 15 minute intervals, was doing them every 30 prior to that. Glad not my data going down the drain! I'll blame those two whenever there is a speed/congestion problem posted here....lol.

Can't help but notice JFBynon and Kimberly Gardin love doing speed tests over at Testmy.net. Appears the former is running the recommended file sizes while latter is automatic and all over the place. All the tests stood out is all when looking at member results. Don't know how many here actually look at that stuff. I like taking a peek every so often.
