I just purchased internet with hugged net due to moving into a place someone had an outlandish bill with century link(great service) they Have not came out and installed anything yet; what I'm asking is should I try to fond service somewhere else? Can I cancel the contract since ity hasn't started yet and get my money back?

Yes-get out now!!!-I was foolish and stuck out the 2 year contract of hit and miss service -just got off the phone after 45 minutes trying to close my contract-had the connection drop (verizon phone here is excellent-huges must use their own service ) what a pain in the you know where. bubuy hugesnet- I'll never be back or refer you to anyone

Paraphrasing what Chris said, "This is a support forum and the majority of the topics discussed here are to help people who have concerns with their service." Most of the "get out now" comments you read on a support forum are from people like rayconn02 who have had a service problem that wasn't resolved for whatever reason. That was his first post here so we may never know what the problem is or whether it could be fixed. Many people have had their problems fixed here. Hughesnet currently has about about 1 million customers, and about 8,000 have posted here at one time or another. If you do the math, that's about 8 customers out of 1,000 who have posted here, and not all of those posts are negative. I'm a retailer and I have over 500 customers, most in outlying areas with no cable or DSL, and they can all call me if there's a problem. If a system is installed correctly, preferable by a local retailer who will take better care of you, then it truly does work very well.Every Internet Service Provider (ISP) has unhappy customers at one point or another. Nonetheless, I recommend you consider your local options, and not just because some customer with one ISP is unhappy.

Depends on what area you're in and how you want to use your Internet connection. As a general rule, Cable Internet will be faster and cheaper than satellite, and usually has no (advertised) data cap.And, yes, you can cancel your HughesNet service order anytime before installation with no problem.

Speaking as a 11 year Hughes subscriber:Hughesnet sat internet is a connection type of "last resort".So much depends on your location. A quality installation is also important.While Hughesnet has data limits, there are no automatic "overage fees".There is no way that a sat connection can compare to a ground based ISP such as Cable, Fiber or a WISP.If your alternative is cellular, then a careful look at the data limits and how overages are applied.My Hughes system runs very well, but then again I have taken the time to understand my systems limits and how to get the most from it. There is a learning curve.VPN, FPS games, streaming in general and in HD in particular are a no-no as well as VOIP unless you go with the Hughes "house brand".I have the 50/50 GB @ 15 Mbps Ultra plan available in my area and routinely get 20% above my plans rated max speed.Again, much depends upon your location as far as system and plan availability as well as beam/gateway loading.Just my opinion.

After reading all the negative reviews and complaints should I stop my purchase of Hughes net service before they come out and install it?

You can always go wireless then you'll see what bad really is. Pay twice the price for half the bandwidth. Most wireless providers offer something like 2gb for &50.00 and if you go over they will either charge an outrages price for overage or slow to EDGE (144k max normally 55k) speed. If you have problems with HughesNet service let someone here know what it is.

You got that right Jezra my only complaint is low data cap but even if throttled it does pretty much all I need it for. By the way even throttled I can listen to soma and rarely a buffer maybe 5 or 10 seconds long once or twice in a four or five hour period.

One thing while I don't stream a lot of video (just news clips) I do stream internet radio via soma and can listen darn near all day long in my workshop and only use about 70mb to 100mb of bandwidth.

If you are on a 7000 system you may need to go with the Jupiter system, you'll definitely notice a major difference

Well, people don't normally post satisfaction with a service on the internet, but they sure will post dissatisfaction. Not going see much praise at all percentage wise. I've been satisfied overall for 10+ years now.

If you have ANY other options available to you, I urge you to take them. I have not heard of any satisfied customers. I have no other options at the moment, but am still checking. I live in a very rural area, so a little internet is better than none at all. It costs a little more each month as my service gets worse. It will only work in the wee hours now. I won't turn it on for a week and when I do- no more bytes. I always know when 8 am rolls around, it stops working. I just sit and spin, get disgusted and unplug it. Good luck.

Exactly. My thing was the man stated his opinion. Whether it made sense to you or anyone else was besides the point. & For you to correct him "in a support site for customers" not a bash the comment because you felt the need to explain that he has a coax line running from the dish to modem, & how insane you thought his comment was. Gamers, and hardcore streaming isn't ever recommend with satellite, good sales reps will explain data & this. If he shouldn't say someone is pyscho because their statements insane, then Should someone being condescending tell another what to do? Have a great night bud!

A lot of DSL only gets from .5mb-6mbs download & if the consumer isnt concerned with streaming & gaming, Hughes can be great for them. A lot of customers live in an area where they are limited to very slow DSL & Dialup, that's Hughesnets target market. some DSL & dial can run around $80-100 per month, & can be very limited to what customer can do "e.g. Streaming, Downloads/Uploads, & slow browsing" If he had these issues Insane would be keeping the DSL. Cable internet is always the first option but when you don't have access Hughes will work, if you know what you're limits are and don't use it like it has unlimited band width.
