Feeling duped: horrible internet

I was looking for Spectrum internet, and on the website I called to learn more information about their $49.99 internet plan with 300mps. The lady on the other end said that plan was not available at my address even though the zip code confirmed it was in the area.
I took her at her word- still believing I was talking to someone from Spectrum- and asked for the basic plan that would give me 300mps of internet. She said all they could offer for my home was a high-speed service but for $64.98. She said that’s “what all your neighbors have been using”. I believed her, and agreed.
She talked SO fast and her accent made it difficult for me to understand as such a rate of speech, I had to stop her several times to ask her to repeat something.
Long story short, I agreed to the plan and she said a Hughes Internet representative would come out to establish internet. I should have stopped right there, but I believed that since I called Spectrum, she was using a local service to set up my internet. The very last rapid-pace speech she gave said I’d pay 12 months of $64.98, then do to standard rates from month 13-24. I had NOT agreed to that kind of a contract, but didn’t ask if there was a grace-period in the beginning. Again, I had been led to believe I was getting high-speed internet, and we plan on living here a while so 24 months isn’t a big deal.
technician comes out and it’s another $50 to install the dish (I had no idea I was getting a dish. That was news to me on his arrival, no one had said anything).
Now, I have one device connected to WiFi. My phone. That’s it! And social media barely loads. Websites lag. Videos buffer. And I’m currently 10 feet away from the modem.
Horrible internet speeds and I want out of this service, without termination fees.

would a rep help me here please?

  • Ive been with these people for almost a year and it was pretty decent until the 5th or 6th month, and it's been a crap show ever sense.Theyre saying that all of a sudden im running through 200g of data in less than 3 weeks time, and then here comes that catcher, they start with their token crap,so these people are kinda like they give you pretty good service in the beginning and then a few months later when nothing on your end changes they start putting the screws to you and want to push tokens on you, just like crack dealers do to users, and you try to talk to someone on the phone and you can't overstand them and you get pissed and halfway lose your mind and then the explicitives begin to come out your mouth and all of a sudden they feel you're pissed and want to lecture you on your choice of words. And of course they know all your info when you try to chat or talk on the phone with them and next you know they really screw with your internet, well I know that they know who's writing this complaint or warning and I can care less,if they want their junk back they will have to come get it,because I'm not touching it,they'll probably say something is broken want to charge me,this is how dishonest they are,and i know alot of people and will continue to tell everyone about my nightmare with Hughesnet, and I hope Starlink will run them into the.ground!,good riddence,oh and the ***has my complaint.People please beware of these crooked antics these people try to pull on everyone!

I am experiencing the same things you are-exactly! We only get two weeks of service and then two weeks of pretty much no service at all. I pay for a full month.

You use up the full month's data in two weeks.  Your data package is limited. Budget the data or buy tokens.

      >>Theyre saying that all of a sudden im running through 200g of data in less than 3 weeks time

They don't use your data. Something on your side is using the data, and it could be many things. It could be ads on webpages, it could be big downloads/uploads, it could be streaming (likely the culprit), and many more things. It's up to you to figure out where the data is going, and it's up to you to budget your data so it lasts the whole month.

      >>here comes that catcher, they start with their token crap

That's no "catcher."  It's a way for people to put more data on their account when they've run out of data (that they have themselves used). Same as being able to put money into a bank account when the money runs out. Not a trap, not a catch, not mandatory. Simply there for people who for whatever reason run out of data. The data isn't infinite for satellite internet. It's finite and we all have to share it, hence the fair access policy.

      >>next you know they really screw with your internet

      No, they don't.

      >>if they want their junk back they will have to come get it,because I'm not touching it

They will charge you for it.

      >>they'll probably say something is broken want to charge me,this is how dishonest they are,

Now you're really in paranoid territory.

      >>and i know alot of people and will continue to tell everyone about my nightmare with Hughesnet

I'm sure they're trembling in fear. They have over a million subscribers and they get more every day.

According to the website, the plan I have should be suited to a family of four streaming and gaming. We can only use ours for two weeks and then pretty much nothing works. This is false advertising.

Give the reps here a chance to look into your account and see what went on and let you know about next steps.  They might ask you to send them additional information, and if they need that they will give you a link to a private messaging page where you can exchange information with them.  Be patient, as it may take them some time to track the transaction, especially if it was done through a 3rd party.
