Ethernet kill switch...

Granted, it's not actually a kill switch, but it will function as one for my purposes. I'm getting tired of having to disconnect my LAN cable each and every time I go to a news article that also wants to play a video. I wait for the print article to load, then disconnect the cable before the video starts loading and playing. I've already ruined one LAN cable by doing this (the retaining clip broke), so I'm going to try this, instead. They're making it harder and harder to block videos via browser extensions.
I"m posting this just an idea in case anyone else is sick of dealing with this. And, granted, it's probably not something HughesNet would recommend, but I don't suspect it will be much different than the cable disconnection method I've been using for quite some time now.
I'll post how it works when I find out. Hopefully the device is built to last, or at least last for a while.
