Yep, do 150 GB plans so people can complain even more about slow speeds.
Amazes me how folks don't relate plans to capacity, speed and individual experience.
I must be really ignorant. All of it is intertwined in my mind.
Cord cutters who expect HD video streaming and gaming 24/7 also make things worse. Some even expect ultra HD. Smack my head and hit it with a hammer!
If you offer high speed internet you expect to be able to cover it. If directv can give you 4K and 3D channels constantly then Hughes can cover high speed internet they choose not to because they think it’s all about speed. The speed isn’t the issue it’s the pipe. You can could throttle back and allow only 10mbps and allow 150gb usage and you’d accomplish the same as 50gb at 25mbps. It’s all about their algorithm in how the manage the usage of their pipe if they are at all. Also you can’t online game with HughesNet or any satellite company Service I’m suspect because of the delay. Watching UltraHD is possible just like how I watch 4K on my Directv hmm smh you guys need to educate yourselves before shaking your head at people not realizing the tech is able to handle this kind of stuff.
- It’s fascinating that people think Hughes doesn’t have the capability to offer high speed internet and allow up to 150gb for a specific amount. High speed doesn’t have to be at 25 Mbps. I’d much rather have 150gb at 10mbps then 50gb at 25mbps lol. But hey you guys assume it’s not possible. And throttling happens on Hughes during peak times as well or have you not had that issue yet?
I know Hughes has the capacity to offer High Speed Internet. I've seen them do it. I've downloaded games over 6GB in under 20 minutes flat. Quite frankly that's exactly what I need the internet for, so it works for me.
The part you don't seem to understand is when 1k+ people are trying to stream SD (or more) simultaneously for hours on end on any particular beam, it's not called intentional throttling, it's called congestion and will slow down any system. Encouraging larger plan sizes just encourages more congestion and worse service for everyone.
So, if you think Excede isn't just fishing for a quick, larger market share that's eventually going to blow up in their face, you're mistaken. But, good luck with that.
Edit: And if you think people streaming aren't the issue, take a look in the Tech section, where nearly every slowness complaint starts with "I can't even stream...", and most aren't even aware of the resolution they're trying to stream at.
- I give up. If you guys don’t want to demand better service or a better way to provide service then whatever. People blissfully happy with limits don’t try to rock the boat. There’s a better way and surprise exede is doing it. Too bad you guys don’t want the same from Hughes. Oh well. I’m sure exede has issues during peak hours BUT from friends who I actually physically know they say exede is a great unlimited service. But whatever. They had a monopoly and now they don’t. Let’s hope they make Service better for us.
It's comical how, after he learns more about the system he's been claiming to know so much about, the complaint then shifts to wanting them to offer 150GB at "10Mbps".

No offense, Saxgod, but with you making that comparison I question your statement, "I’m an IT Audit consultant so I get how networks work.", as by comparing the abilities of DirecTV and it's one way system to Hughes' two way system it's evident you really don't get how networks work. SMH.
BTW, Saxgod, what's the throughput of Exede's system and it's number of subscribers? You keep making direct comparisons with HughesNet. What's the throuput of Exede, and it's number of subscribers? Oh, and just for fun, what's the upload limit of DirecTV, since you're comparing HughesNet to them, too. Oh, that's right, they don't have upload, and the way they download content to their receivers is completely different than streaming on an ISP, but you know that, because you know networks, right?

A few leases on random satellites for HN7000, they used AMC-9, Satmex5, Horizons1, not sure if those are all still in use. (yes, those still exist)

Also, Viasat-2 is NOT in use yet, it's still in testing, that's not why they can offer higher speeds currently, what they have done is hard-throttled video to a certain speed/resolution depending on your service plan, thus freeing up much needed bandwidth to allow for potentially higher caps.
Also, no one is stopping you from canceling your consumer account and signing up for the $500, 250GB Business package, it's rather nice aside from the cost. Don't recomend customers doing that though, as the business plans are much more costly per GB, plus the moment you are an SME customer, you lose the ability to get support via the Community. I would say that less than 1/10th of the SME customers are sitting on the top tier plan, as most use the satellite link as a pure backup link in the event someone cuts the fiber at a place. I would wager most SME customers are sitting on the Business 75, or Business 150 plan./shrugs/
Back to the topic, wont happen, not for some time. It would be stupid to increase data allowances when the satellite can't keep up with demand as is.I've never been in FAP with Gen4 or Gen5, but I know that it's a lot better than the legacy systems, that's for darn sure. I had the Pro plan before Gen4, which had 425MB per day, but those free monthly tokens sure came in handy when I had to update my folks' computer for them and I didn't feel like waiting up until 2AM to use the Download Zone.
And AOL? I loathe AOL with a passion! When my folks had dialup that's what they had, so not only did they have terrible speed, they had to wait for that awful AOL home page to load a bunch of it's junk before you could close the things you could on it, then minimize it. I could never get the AOL dialer to work so that they wouldn't have to actually use the AOL home page. It was awful. Absolutely awful. And that walled garden way back? Oh how I hate AOL. I truly, wholeheartedly, hate them.
And that orange button. Thanks. Now I'm going to have nightmares of myself being in FAP and trying to run while in two feet of cold molasses, all while getting chased by anthropomorphic orange buttons, drooling orange drool, grinning at me with broken teeth and emitting their breath of death while laughing like Robert De Niro in Cape Fear. Noooooooo!!!!
