Yahoo was having serious outage with its e-mail; it was being reported globally. I see reports that issues were beginning to clear yesterday afternoon at about 2:30 central.

At 0619, a Koodo Get Satisfaction message arrived in my e-mail feed. And, although there have been more recent HN posts, I have not received them in e-mail. I wonder if it has anything to do with the prior message posted by Engineering containing "mail test 1448012728" and a subject of "mail loop test 1448012728." The sender was: Get Satisfaction Operations on Get Satisfaction! <noreply.ops_mailtest@getsatisfaction.com>Get Satisfaction Operations on Get Satisfaction! <noreply.ops_mailtest@getsatisfaction.com>. I am now not receiving any e-mail from the BBS.

A comment to Katie's announcement: GlassWire will not monitor traffic on your network, only on the machine on which it is installed. So, if you have a couple of machines co0nnected to your network that consume traffic from the HN service, install GlassWire on each machine to see the total usage.

It has been a while since Networx was mentioned within these posts, but today I first noticed that there is considerable "chatter" within Foxnews.com which I wouldn't have known about if it weren't for Networx in the tray. It's free from https://www.softperfect.com/products/networx/. In this image, note the traffic toward the left. That was caused by an open foxnews.com page. Recommended. For all!

Ahhh, a fellow GD worker. I started at Electric Boat in 1963 in Nuclear Quality Control. Retired from their Newport (RI) engineering facility in 1992. I ended up labeled as a troubleshooter and was plopped here and there for about 20 years. Also, I'd burn out, leave to do something else interesting, then return when there was an interesting crisis to solve.

What Gwalk says should be taken seriously. It's a good idea to put all your portable devices in airplane mode which generally severs their connection to the outside world. HOWEVER: you may have devices that appear to have no way to turn off their wi-fi connection. For example, the designers of a 90-inch smart TV probably don't expect it to be operated in a passenger airplane, so it probably won't have an airplane mode that can be turned on. Nor are the designers of these gadgets sensitive to data caps, so they communicate willy-nilly with the outside world. You CAN sever their connections, however, by changing its Wi-Fi password to something incorrect.
