I posted here with my problem a few months ago and Remy responded and he escalated my case to engineering. Engineering contacted me and told me they could see that I had a problem. They did not have a fix at that time but they would try and come up with one as soon as they could. In the meantime since my speeds were so poor they would not charge for the next 2 months. By then they hoped to have a fix. The 2 months are up and I am being charged again with no improvement. Is there a fix coming? After 6pm my speeds drop below 200 Kbs and I experience buffering when listening to a podcast. If this situation can not be fixed I need to know this so that I can move on. SolvedRe: Video Data Saver disappears every month Hi Liz, Thank you for your reply. I must apologize I did not fully understand how the VDS works. I thought I had to keep hitting the bottom button to put it into snooze. I did not realize I could permanently disable the VDS with the top button. My VDS did return and I have toggled it off permanently, so this should not be a problem in the future. Thank you Liz! Video Data Saver disappears every month My Video Data Saver goes missing every month. It usually appears again when a new billing cycle starts. To be clear what happens is first it disappears from the pull down menu for the usage meter. However at this point if I hit open on the pull down menu video data saver appears below settings on the sidebar. Then this disappears after a few days and I can only disable the VDS by going to my account on Hughesnet and using the setting menu. Then this will disappear, leaving me know way to disable this feature. The resulting video quality on Youtube is terrible. Sometimes if I restart my computer I bunch of times it magically reappears. That does not always work. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the Usage Meter, that has not worked. I currently have 21 days left in this billing cycle and the VDS is gone which is very frustrating. I have brought this problem to Hughesnet attention before. In looking at the FAQ for the VDS I see this, “HughesNet Gen5 service plans include data-saving features to get the most out of your service. Video settings are automatically adjusted to stream video at DVD quality for great picture viewing while using less data - Giving you 3½ times more video. You can opt-out of the video feature temporarily or permanently.” The last sentence says I can opt out of the VDS permanently. How do I do this? It would save me much frustration and anger. SolvedRe: Video Data Saver missing... Hi Gabe, The same thing happens to me on a regular basis. The only thing that has worked for me is restarting my computer. Sometimes I have to do this only 2 or 3 times, but there have been times I could not watch youtube videos for several days before The Video Data Saver magically came back. I have brought this to HughesNet attention more than once but it keeps happening once or twice a month. . Re: Constant buffering on Youtube Thank you Liz I really appreciate your efforts to help me. I am sure this will solve my problem. After the modem arrives if everything works as expected I will hit the accept as solution button below your post. Thanks again. Re: Constant buffering on Youtube A correction when I try and connect to the SCC I get this message "Unable to connect Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at 192.168.0.1. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web." I then switched to the NetGear modem and went to the SCC page and checked the System Status and saw the following state code, "State Code 14.1.1 -- No devices connected" this was followed with a red x Also at the top of the page was "Diagnostic Code 0000-0000-0000-0049 Another correction while I could not connect to the internet all the lights were on but none were flashing on the HughesNet Modem Re: Constant buffering on Youtube Hi Liz, Below is the message I get when I lose my connection to the internet and when I cannot connect to the SCC. To be clear I try to access a website, the page on my screen goes white, the bar at the top of the page spins a bit then this page comes up. I then try and go to the SCC, the page goes white, the top spins or gyrates or whatever you call after 15 or 30 seconds the page below comes up. I hope this helps. "Hmm. We can't connect that site. It appears you are not connected to the internet. Here are two things you can try. Check you network connection. If you are connected but behind a firewall check that firefox has permission to access the web." Near as I can tell the same lights are on or flashing when I lose my connection Re: Constant buffering on Youtube Hi Liz, The computer connected directly to the modem did not disconnect from the internet this weekend. The computer connected to the HughesNet wifi network did but I can not access the System Control Center on that computer when it can not connect. This 1st test was done when I could not watch a video without constant buffering, also regular web pages load very slowly. Re: Constant buffering on Youtube Hi Liz, A clarification, when the Hughesnet modem can not connect the internet, the Netgear modem and the computer connected by a ethernet cable can connect to the internet.
