Terminating service
Anybody else have a bad experience terminating service? I called two weeks in advance to cancel as I was moving. After a 30+minute conversation, timed by Verizon, with a customer (no)service agent, he said that they would send me a box on the 23rd to return the modem. I told him that I was moving and would not be there on the 23rd, and that I needed the box on or before the 14th. The customer no-service agent argued with me throughout the conversation. I called on the 15th as I hadn't received the box, and the next customer service representative said that there was no record of my previous call and that my service had not been cancelled. I corrected all of that misinformation and had to give a friend's address to send the box to, as I was no longer available. My friend called today (22nd) and said that the box arrived. They have packed up the modem and are sending it back. I used to think that HughesNet was a decent operation, but apparently not. I have filed a complaint with xxx, although it will not amount to anything.

The issue is that a lot of this is automated to save on cost. The service actually ends at the end of the billing period and that's when they send the box. It's very possible the person you talked to got frustrated that he had no control over the process and had a hard time trying to explain that.
It's unfortunate that he chose to argue instead of recommending an alternate solution. For example: He could have recommended that you have the box sent to your new address and brought the equipment with you when you moved. I think it's nothing more than just the modem and the receiver in the dish.
