internet service and plans

we've been with hughesnet for over 5 years and not by choice.  despite "upgrades and improvements" (which means higher costs), internet speed and service never improves.  We upgraded our plan because we were exceeding our monthly limit only to find out that we still exceeded our monthly limit with no other changes to our internet usage.  Hughesnet preys on those in rural areas that are forced to use them for "faster" (yet more expensive) internet.  When you call their customer service, you get a different response each time not to mention their lack of concern.  Changes are coming...

@teejay

If you'd like to get help with your speed issue, please post in Tech Support.

If you would like to get help with your data usage issue, including things you can do to reduce your data usage so that you don't run out every month, please do the same.

The speed issue may be able to be helped, depending on what's causing it.  The data usage issue is wholly dependant on your usage habits and your devices, and when you exceed your monthly data allotment your speed is reduced.

HughesNet offers service where few others do or will.  They offer the highest data packages that their infrastructure allows.  It's not cheap as it's not cheap to provide.  No one is forced to sign up with HughesNet.  You are free to cancel the service at any time you wish, though you will be subject to an Early Termination Fee if you are in a contract.

Teejay, they don't prey. They provide a service that allows rural residents to have something other than AOL.  Maybe you should be angry at cable companies who can't be bothered to provide any kind of service to you and other rural residents.  Maybe you could go to your county's board of supervisors and ask that they bring better Internet to the area.  Snapping at the people who give you something when no one else will is pretty silly. And yes,  it's expensive because the technology is expensive. If it's so intolerable to you, then dump it and go with AOL or learn to live without Internet.
