I just set up a new D-Link router, as my Netgear router was getting a little temperamental. The settings are nothing like my Netgear settings, which actually had a program to get into them. With the D-Link it's through the address bar. The only options it gives me in the wireless settings is "Disable Wireless Security (Not recommended)" and "AUTO-WPA/WPA2 (Recommended)". I imagine I would choose the 2nd, right? I often see people saying to disable WAP, but I don't see anything for it. Any help as to what settings I need to change, what to change them to, and how to change them would be greatly appreciated. Also, does D-Link have a program, like Netgear does, so that you can get into more advanced settings, or is the address bar method and the few things that are able to be changed through such the only way? Thanks for the help.

fitweb, Have you tried paying the bill without logging in? That's how I pay mine, manually, each month. I have to use Chrome to do it, as it doesn't seem to like my IE 11 (for some reason it says I have a popup blocker on when I use IE 11, even when it's turned off). It's on the bottom right of the Dashboard at http://my.hughesnet.com/ .

That's what I did... burned it to a flash drive to upgrade my three computers. They are well aware of what's going to happen when it's no longer available for free. They just don't want to upgrade to Hughesnet at this point, which would be necessary to use Windows 10. They will later this year, but they are choosing to wait for financial reasons at this point. It's not that they couldn't afford it, they just want to wait for now as my stepfather has just had one of his shoulders replaced, is going to have the other replaced in three months, and his comp pay has gone WAY down. They just don't want any unnecessary increases in bills for the time being. He's waiting for his SSDI to be approved and come through. Once that happens, everything will be good to go. Not only that, but come later this year, he will probably also have disability retirement from the state.

My folks' laptop is still using 8.1 because they are still on dialup. I've let them know numerous times that soon they won't be able to upgrade for free, but they still plan on waiting to get satellite internet. Oh well, their loss. I didn't think I would, but it turns out I actually like Windows 10.

But doesn't a wireless cinema adapter work differently than having a DTV console itself connected to Hughesnet through a router? It was my understanding, from other posts on here, that the console uses the internet for a bunch of other things, like the guide, updating titles and descriptions, and other things even if you don't watch on demand programs/films.

If you have a landline phone, you can order movies through the DTV without having to call or text, but not on demand movies. On demand movies through DTV and Hughesnet will eat that data like crazy. Even without watching on demand things, the DTV system will still eat through your HN data with guide updates, titles, etc. If I were you, I would completely disassociate the DTV from Hughesnet.

Liz, Thanks for checking it out for me. Interestingly enough, my laptop signs in using my Hughesnet credentials just fine. I've tried numerous things with this desktop, including clearing the cache, turning monitoring programs off, etc. I'll have to just fiddle around with different things to see if I can figure out what it is, but it's most definitely something having to do with this desktop, alone. I appreciate the help. For now I will just use my Get Satisfaction sign on when using my desktop, so it's no big deal in any sense of the word, as it still connects to the same account, anyway. If I do figure out what is causing it, I will go ahead and post it on here in case you, or anyone else, is interested in what it was. Again, thanks for the help. I certainly appreciate it.

The only add-ons/extensions are Logitech Setpoint, which is disabled, and Webroot (my antivirus), which has been on this computer for three years. It's not a high priority thing in the least bit, as I can still sign the other way with IE or using either way with Chrome. I was just curious if anyone else had this occur after the update. I have yet to update my seldom used laptop to the newest W10 revision. When I do I will see if it does the same thing.

Since updating to the latest W10 revision on the 12th, I noticed that signing in to the Community Boards using IE and my Hughesnet credentials has become impossible. In fact, just after the update I noticed that IE had signed me out of the community, whereas I was always signed in. When I go to sign in, it gives me the option of how I want to sign in, I choose Hughesnet, as I always have, put my name and password, then when I hit enter it says something about starting the session, then when the page pops back up, I'm not signed in, whereas when it popped back up before I would be signed in. The funny thing is, when using IE I can sign in using my "get satisfaction" sign on, and when using Chrome I can use either the Hughesnet or "get satisfaction" sign on, and it works just fine. It just won't work now with IE and my Hughesnet sign on credentials, while it always has before. I know the update to the latest revision did involve some changes/updates to IE 11, but I was just curious if anyone else had this odd problem. As I said, I can still sign in using my "get satisfaction" sign on in IE, and using my "get satisfaction" AND Hughesnet sign on using Chrome, so it's not stopping me from using the site. It's just a curiosity. No virus or malware. It most definitely has something to do with the update to the latest revision and whatever it did to IE 11.

Years ago on a much older computer I actually had someone hack into my system and start typing on it...in front of me. Taunting me. Needless to say, that drive got wiped and everything reinstalled, and before ANYTHING else, I installed every protection measure on that thing I could think of, downloading them using a different system. THAT was an eye opener. You've probably never seen anyone pull a phone cord out of their computer so fast! LOL.

I do use it, but you have to understand that I don't know any of this stuff. No one ever explained why it's more secure, they always just said "it's more secure." I can say that Gen 4 is better than the legacy plans, but it doesn't make it so unless I explain why. You did that. I appreciate the explanation. And when I say "they," I don't mean the people on here, I just mean people from past questions.

I use Chrome sometimes when I'm having a problem with IE and a particular web page, but I have never used it for anything sensitive, nor gone to any of the sites on which I do anything sensitive.

I have Linux Mint on a different SSD, and I enjoy using it sometimes just to goof around, but I have never done anything sensitive with it due to the fact that I had a hard time finding any free antivirus software and such for it that was Linux ready and easily installed like on a Windows system, though I know there are programs out there. I also know that Linux is much less likely to be hack, but I still don't trust it without those types of programs. I'm also not willing to actually pay for a virus program due to the fact that, for me, it would be a waste of money.

Thanks for all of the help, folks. I think I will stick with IE for now, but I will download Firefox and try it out here and there. I will, of course, eventually have to switch to something else being that this will be the last release of IE. I don't care for the Edge browser one iota, so perhaps Firefox will be the answer. I know that Chrome tracks just about everything, and that's been an ongoing complaint regarding that. Time will tell. Thanks again.

Maybe I should download Firefox and just give it a try. It couldn't hurt, and it might very well be different than it was when I tried it back in the day. Netscape was a great browser. I used it quite often. It was also sort of like Netscape was one of the first, very widely used, freeware programs.

When I do anything sensitive I always make sure that my computer is scanned and everything is up to date. I also have my IE set to "Enhanced Protection Mode" and the 64-bit processes mode that goes along with that. I also make sure to check the security certificate of any site I go to in which I do anything sensitive. This may sound sort of goofy, but after I do any transactions and whatnot, I shut everything down, including my Hughesnet modem, then restart everything. Then, once back up, I scan again.

An off topic question, but do you think Google Chrome is secure enough? I have been using IE for years, and I, like others, am starting to see more articles and such of how IE is basically falling behind...considerably. I have Chrome on here, and it's up to date, but I am somewhat apprehensive in using it to do things like online shopping. What do you think? I don't have Firefox. I tried it a few years back and did not like it at all. But, with regard to that, how is Firefox with security? What would YOU choose to do sensitive things like shopping and paying bills and such? Thanks for the help.

Running out of data is not a Windows problem, it's a user problem of not remaining cognizant usage, using the internet willy nilly, and not having things set up right. The blame lies with the user, not the equipment. I'm 18 days into the month and have used 4.3GB of Anytime and 7GB of Bonus Bytes, and most of both of those was used with upgrading my folks' Windows 7 computer to Windows 8, then doing all of the updates, then upgrading it to 8.1, again doing updates afterward. Then I updated a nearly ten year old Dell to W7 from Vista, then updated, then upgraded it to Windows 10, then updated. The latter computer was just to see how well a nearly ten year old computer would run Windows 10, but also so I could give it away as I don't use it and probably never will again. There might be a local family with a kid that could use a computer at home for school work, but can't afford one. Probably at least 80% of my usage this month was all of the upgrades and updates for those two computers, so my normal usage would be the rest. A Windows problem? No, a user problem.

There is no ETF if cancelled within the first thirty days of service. If cancelled after that, but before your two year contract is up, it's $400. Wanting to cancel after one day seems a little odd. So the billing in Feb was for Feb 5th through April 4th? If that's the case, someone needs to train your agents a little better to explain that. So the extra 19.54 was for 29 days of the difference for the new plan (2/5 through 3/4), then one more month of the difference for the new plan(3/4 through 4/4)? If that's the case, then I guess that makes sense. It's a strange way of doing it. What will really help is when I get my first paper bill, so I can see just exactly what is going on. What I thought, which I thought just about anyone else would think, was that my bill generated on Feb 4th (after it was adjusted, as when it was first generated it was for my old plan amount, then it was updated) would be for one day of my old service (2/4) and the rest of the month (2/5 through 3/4) at the new rate, prorated. So, just to make sure, I may see this $40 credit (which it turns out I didn't deserve) disappear because of my misunderstanding due to the reps not being able to explain this. It's nice to know that, due to my lack of ESP ability, I am the fool.
