@GabeU, glad it worked. Can cross you off my Christmas list now. And yep, Google is collecting a lot but I'm getting too old to worry about it much. Can't imagine the info they'll have on the younger generations if it keeps up. Big Brother is no longer science fiction. Just private companies are as guilty, maybe more, than the government.

Think it could be the way Google+ is tied into Chrome these days. If you're logged into Google+ then it automatically keeps track of things like sites visited depending on the setting defaults and what you have allowed. YouTube is now part of the Google empire also so it is tied into your Google account. Because the speed of light (and radio waves) is what it is and the fact that the satellite is aproximately 23 thousand miles out in space. They can't make the latency any better with geostationary satellites.

If you mean using HughesNet for things like browsing the Internet on your phone then it is simply a matter of connecting your phone's WiFi to the modem Wifi. Most phones will then automatically use the WiFi for data. Cell calling over WiFi will not work however due to the higher latency with satellite.

Sorry but no. It is fixed 2-8 AM local time for everyone. It is set to that in order to avoid interfering with daytime and peak evening system available bandwidth. It is added use which we really aren't paying for in our plan allowance as even the lowest plan receives it.

You will be throttled to a lower speed once you exceed plan limit. All wireless carriers, except maybe WISP, do this as far as I know. This article/review answers many questions people have about satellite internet: https://www.reviews.com/satellite-internet/hughesnet/ PS: Since I don't have the mailer in front of me so I can't answer to that, however there is usually fine print somewhere about the reduced speed. And if they opened up full speed 24/7 for everyone, no monthly limits on amount at full speed, everything would pretty much grind to a complete halt.

@GabeU, At least Newegg has the description right but of course their price is higher. Probably can't go wrong with either one, I've gone with Asus for some years because of the Merlin firmware available.

I'm too late from the looks of it but have had a very good experience with the Asus RT-N66R. The signal is strong and reaches out well. Going strong for a few years now. Thought I'd add it here for anyone else in the market. P.S.: The specs are wrong on Amazon, it is a dual band router.

Pages will load slower due to satellite latency and noticeable if acustomed to ground based internet. I notice the difference when I use my cell 4G service, the load time is quicker. High content graphic and video pages are the worst. Using an ad blocker can speed load times up somewhat. I'm not bothered by the slower load time as I've been using satellite for about 14 years now. Honestly, if all you're concerned with is the page load times you probably should have stayed with ground based internet.

I have never gotten FDM to work with any site that requires an account log in. Although there is option to enter log in info in the scheduling section, it simply doesn't work. My experience anyway.

All the "unlimited" cell phone plans I know of can throttle you after around 20-25 GB or during high traffic times. Really no different than HughesNet as they don't cut you off after going over plan allowance.

The only wireless setup I can see working reliably would be a WiFi repeater with outdoor antennas. Especially if talking about a metal hangar and RV which are essentially giant Faraday cages.

Concentrating on traffic for retail sites certainly doesn't provide the overall traffic picture that includes things like cloud downloads, video streaming and gaming. Plus HughesNet satellite service is a limited resource which doesn't fall into the normal traffic and congestion scenario. I defer to the experts at Hughes who monitor their system constantly 7/24.
