ContributionsMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Spring time Slowdown Hi Liz; Glad to see you are still here. The "installer" was out Saturday and did all kinds of things. You will probably get a report from him. I do know he re-positioned and realigned the dish and replaced the (radio?) and modem. He tested everything he could think of. The end result - speed is up where it belongs (at least right now). Many thanks to both you and him. You for getting someone out here quick and him for getting it fixed. Let's hope I have no more problems till next spring. I enjoy the community postings and think I will try to get on it (just to see what is going on) more often. Thanks again, Cliff Spring time Slowdown Hi; I see my old post is still up - but since that was solved last year, (by Elizabeth and Amanda), I thought starting a new one was better. Anyway, I have had a severe slowdown the last few month's. Which I at first attributed to having used up my plan data. I was afraid of this when I switched to a plan with less data, but it was what I could affordand I am learning to live with it. BUT like now, I still have plenty of data left (it just rolled over) and I am doing speed tests during the "bonus" period (it is a little after 5:00 a.m.). Two test done on your site just a few minutes ago registered download speeds of 2.0 and 2.1. Should be a lot higher. You can also check some I have done on your site and the testmy site, both through a router and direct into the computer. I will be doing some more later this morning. I will do these plugged direct into the computer. (Not going through a router). Can we do any "tweaking" to speed things up? It is getting to be a nuisance. As always, I appreciate all you have done in the past. Thanks, Bkeeper SolvedRe: Problem AGAIN with speed in evening! Hughes Rep: Can you please remove "deactivate" this thread. I am pleased with the solutionHughes and I reached last spring. I no longer use this thread and don't like the posts other people put on it. If they are having a proplem, they should start their own thread! Hughes has treated me very well most of the time -- and anytime I have had a problem -- they have done all they could to solve it. Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don't, it happens, that's life. THank you, Bkeeper :smileyhappy: Re: Problem AGAIN with speed in evening! Hi: Seems like you're the only one that is not ignoring me - that has been the most irritating and upsetting part of this whole mess. The moderators/techs act as if they just hope the problem will go away if they don't do anything. Even just a note once a week to say they are still on the jobwould help. I recognize the problem and am still wishing and hoping. Would like to go to Gen5 -- but can't afford the extra (average over the next two years) almost $500 per year. AND how do I know the problem wont resurface with Gen5? The fine print still reads the same. I kept my end of the bargain and payed for the service every month. What about Hughes? At least this last week was slightly better - most (not all) of the time I was able to stream Netflix with little or no buffering -- But, in the evening - don't try anything else! Most of the time the speed stayed above 1.0 Mbps, didn't drop into the Kbps. Just barely enough to stream Netflix and not much else. Still VERY slow, not what I signed up for years ago. Daytime speed had a definiteimprovement. Will let you know what happens next week. Thanks Re: Problem AGAIN with speed in evening! Another week gone by --SAME STORY -- Slow in evenings - constant buffering (thank goodness for my daughter and her cell phone "hotspot"). Sure am not getting the service I am paying for, - doesn't seem right, you'd think they would at least adjust the cost. Still have no complaint with Hughes (except for the last few weeks) -- if they could only fix the speed problem and I didn't feel like they were ignoring me. Re: Problem AGAIN with speed in evening! Hi; Just ran three tests at testmy site. Between 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. They were as follows; Test 1. 404 Kbps. Hughes network Test 2. 5.63 Mbps. AT&T - my daughter's hotspot Test 3. 545 Kbps. Hughes network I would prefer to stay with Hughes -- but if this is going to run into months..... Please - can anything be done? Bkeeper Re: Problem AGAIN with speed in evening! Hi; It is about 9:00 p.m. - prime streaming time for my wife and myself. Which we have not been able to do for a while now. I just ran a speed test - download speed was 1.75 Mbps on your website and only 422 Kbps on testmy site. I understand the problems and am "waiting and hoping" for things to get better. But I am wondering if you have any idea of how much longer we are going to have to "wait and hope". This is really getting old. Thanks Bkeeper Re: Where are the Champions? Hi Liz; I wondered what had happened. This is certainly not the place it used to be. When you helped me two years ago with (to me) a major problem and even last year with a smaller problem - I became a Hughes "Booster". This year has been different. I have felt ignored. A major change in Hughes -- and I really didn't know why - NOW I do! It is sad to see Hughes go (as so many big companies are) down the road of impersonality. I will still be posting occasionally- and trying to stay positive. Thanks for your help in the past. Have a good life! Bkeeper Cliff Re: Slow speeds only in prime time hours Hi; Amanda did not respond or answer me for four weeks – She kind of left me with the feeling that she was just too busy to fool with my problems. It’s not pleasant when you are not sure if you are even being heard. When she did finally respond to my postings and PMs (just a little over a week ago) this is all she had to say. Quote “In response to your last PM and this post, if you choose to opt out of upgrading, I cannot force that upon you. I did get the latest update from engineering this week who let me know there was maintenance done to improve performance on your beam and it was completed on March 1st. Aside from that, there is nothing further scheduled. If the service is still not satisfactory and an upgrade is not viable, the final thing I can offer you is to cancel your service without any early termination fees. Thank you, Amanda” Unquote She was no help at all – last time I had problems – Liz helped me – and the service was great – she really was terrific and did not leave me hanging. It took a while – but, working with Liz the problem was solved to everybody’s satisfaction. Apparently Amanda is not in the same category. She started out fine – and then NOTHING until the above. Which I thought was almost rude. Sorry that you are going through the same thing. Re: Problem AGAIN with speed in evening! Hi Moderators,Tutors; Know you are not interested and really don't care, but, thought I'd let you know. Report on this last weekend; This past weekend was (as they have been lately) not a good one for streaming. Actually, Saturday was not too bad. Speed stayed right around 1Mbps. to 3Mbps, most of the day, which was just enough that there was only a little buffering. There was one time, in the evening Saturday, when we had to use my daughter's phone's“hot-spot” to watch the end of a video. Hughes was just buffering too much – every 30-40 seconds. I didn'teven try very much to stream with Hughes on Sunday. According to those in the know (Hughes moderators and tutors) we will just have to get used to the poor streaming during prime time. This is from a posting (reply) to me a few days ago from CORROSIVE (One of Hughes tutors). “Not sure what HughesNetcan do, the Ultra plan no longer exists, and Jupiter One is "at capacity", which mostly means that it has been oversold. The only thing you can do is wait things out and hope enough people on your beam/gateway assignment decide to jump to Jupiter II, or wait to see if Hughes offers Ultra like plans on Jupiter II”. So, right now I am “waiting things out and hoping”. Will let you know in a few days what is happening. Thanks, Bkeeper
