@GabeU I already did the upgrade to Windows 10 on my desktop then went back to Windows 7. I read that they are still allowing people to upgrade free even though they encouraged people to do so for 1 year, and it supposly only being a 1 year thing. Its suppose to still accept the Windows 7 key for activation. I dont know for sure if its true. (When I was trying to install Windows 10 fresh on my laptop after trying the Creator Update - I entered my Windows 7 Key and it said it was not valid. I thought I was screwed, but here I guess the Windows 10 Key is stored in the computer --- which I did not know) @maratsade Dont you have your connection set to Metered so that it does not randomly download updates and use data? I found some changes with the Creator Update. The one that I like the most is that you can set Ethernet Connections as Metered now in Network & Internet Settings. You can read through this site for other changes.

Glad to hear they are Installed and working with out issue. I installed it on my Nieces laptop and played around with it some, and installed it on my Moms laptop (I currently have it due to the charger port being broke AGAIN and needed to replace it so I figured I would install the update, since she dont know much about computers if there was a problem -- and she lives over 3 hours away). Both seam to be have no issues. Now if I can just get it installed and working on my Laptop with is a pretty old system, originally Windows XP. I might try it on my Desktop also, I dont use the Desktop much myself currently its being used mainly by the kids for games with Windows 7 installed. I think all the games should work on Windows 10 now so I will probably see how the Creator Update is on there. (I assume I probably will have go through Windows 10 to install / upgrade to the Creators Update... and not just update from Windows 7). I am amazed at how fast the Windows Software downloads. Before was lucky if it finished a Windows 10 download of 3+ GB in 4-5 hours. Now it finishes with in 1 hour or so (didnt exactly time it - but I know was fast)

If you already had a Router I would just use that. Turn off all WiFi on the HughesNet Gen5 modem by going to WiFi Settings and uncheck the box next to SSID Enable for 2.4Ghz and also for 5Ghz. (Save after each). Then just plug Your router into the HughesNet modem, all your old settings with your Router will be the same as before. (I am pretty sure this will fix your problem but not exactly sure). If your PC needs to be Ethernet plug it into the Modem itself NOT the Router.

I get around 15-26 Mbps download with Gen5 using my own router. It varies alot for me. I get 40+ Mbps on a wired connection. I dont know why wireless is so much lower.

I also was glad to hear there was no Cost to Upgrade. I did not have Gen4, so everything was a PLUS to upgrade except the 50 GB from 2am-8am when I had UNLIMITED from 2am-7am. The totally free upgrade was the icing on the cake for me as well and the more reasonable FAP speeds! I was paying $69.99 so after the $20 savings for 12 months it will be the same with faster speeds with slightly more data usage. I do have reliable cell service but cell data is expensive for having Hotspot usage plus its one set limit for the entire month (no bonus period with extra data) My signal has been still around 100. It did go up some for a few days now its back down.

If you do the upgrade you can always use the Go back to earlier build option in Recovery.... Settings - Update & Security - Recovery. I did that on my system and I do not have the Windows.old folder.

I am not exactly sure what all is new in 1703, but I know there is a 3D Paint program. I did open it once to see what it was before I restored to previous Build the last time. I was not pleased with it, I only spent like 30 seconds in the program and closed it. I do like the Wired Connection being able to be set to Metered. Esp. with Gen5 getting SUPER FAST speeds over Wired Connection compared to WiFi. I keep the Setup files for all programs I have on my computer on my External / Second Hard Drive. So its not much of a deal for me to do Clean Installs. Theres some I dont keep which are programs that are constantly updated and will have to redownload anyway (like Adobe Flash Player, Firefox, Chrome ect.) @GabeU It must be nice to have the Pro version. You have much more control over Windows. You shouldnt have a problem with system updates, isnt there an option to set not to download updates? Metered Connection does good, but I still would much rather have option to set in WU myself. I am not sure how the License works if you do Clean Install before running the upgrade. I never really thought about it either.

The Metered option for Wired Connections is a nice added feature, which should have been added to the original version. I purchased a USB WiFi Adapter for my Desktop so I could run Windows 10 and be able to set it as Metered. 10+ TB WOW LOL. They need to add an option to set it External Usage Only.

I was attempting to use the Remote Server feature in GlassWire to show the usage from another computer. I was unable to figure out how to set it up to get the data to show. Only thing if I was able to get it to work, you can only set up one Server with the free version. I was thinking about purchasing it if I was able to figure out how to use the Remote Server but then seen its $49 for 1 PC - $99 for 3 PC and $199 for 10 PC. I have 4 PC's but I assume the 3 PC version would probably work. It shows you can set up 10 Remote Connections, so I guess you can use the Free Version on other PC's and still monitor them from the main PC. Maybe even the 1 PC option would be just as good. BUT the paid version does not have much more usage over the free.

@creativeSpurts Maybe you should look into making some changes in the settings of your computer. First off if you have Windows 10, you should set your connection to Metered. This way you will not get un expected update downloads. If you do not have Wireless you might not be able to set a Metered Connection. Unless you system downloaded the newest version of Windows 10 (Creators Update 1703 -- with saying 8 GB of data was used I would imagine you got this update). I believe I seen a Metered Connection switch for Ethernet with 1703, I was unable to test this being my system was not working correctly with the Creator Update version. To set Metered Connection ... go to Settings in Windows 10 - Click Network & Internet - Click WiFi on left side - then click your Connection Name and set as Metered -- If you are not on WiFi Click Ethernet and it may be a Metered Connection option there. You will have to change the setting back to Unmetered when you want to download Windows Updates. OR you can go to Update & Security and click Download when you know you have extra data, or during the Bonus / Free Zone. Also I advise you to make sure Windows App Updates are not set to automatically download in Windows 10. Go to Windows Store (Click the Shopping Bag in taskbar OR search Store) at the top of Store Click the icon that looks like a person (Next to the search box) Go to Settings. You will have to manually download App Updates by going to Store - Click the person icon - Click Downloads and Updates.

After using GlassWire on my Laptop and finally realizing how usefull it is with HughesNet internet, being able to see what programs are using data and how much, how much data was used over a certain amount of time helps ALOT. It would be much better if it was full network monitoring though. With that said, I went and downloaded it for my Desktop and was browsing the GlassWire website. Learning even more about the software. I found that there is a User Guide which explains everything. (User Guide can be found on the Help page on the site). Anyway to my main reason for this post..... As I was browsing the website I noticed they now have an Android App available as of March 6th. They are also in progress of making an Apple version as well. Hopefully that gets released soon for all.

I tried to update my Laptop which is an older computer (Dell Inspiron 1720). I downloaded it from Microsoft's website before the release (I am a Microsoft Insider - I was testing Windows 10 before the initial release -- Have not been doing much since the Release though) The upgrade did not work on my system. I was unable to connect to the internet at all. My WiFi adapter did not show any networks to connect to. My Ethernet adapter also did not connent when directly connected to the modem. I had to roll back to previous build which works perfectly. I attempted doing a full clean install of Creators Update. I formatted my hard drive and Creators Update would not complete the install. I run it multiple times and it kept stopping at a certain percentage. I then had to reinstall an earlier build of Windows 10 and got my system back up to date after a week or so. Then the Creator Update came through in Windows Update. I figured they might have corrected my problem so I went ahead and downloaded it via WU. The problem still exists. I tried installing Network Adapter drivers from my external hard drive which did not work. Tried to use a USB WiFi adapter and was unable to get that to work either. I am currently back on previous build, I hope the update does not come back up in WU but I bet it will. I might give it another try in a few weeks to see if anything was fixed. I have the ISO downloaded so I might try to update other systems. If you download the update directly from Microsoft website 32 bit version is around 2.77 GB -- 64 bit is around 3.55 GB. I have both versions downloaded -- I have a few systems that I might be upgradeing that are 64 bit. I am not exactly sure what the Windows Update file size is. I would imagine it being the same since it is a full system update. (I would suggest downloading it from Microsoft's website if you want the upgrade -- So you can burn it to DVD or store on an external hard drive if you ever want / need to do a reinstall)

@BirdDog Do you use a router or just direct connect to the modem? I never really went to www.systemcontrolcenter.com on my HN9000 system, I have a few times in the past though and it worked. Cant remember if I did with my current router or not. @GabeU I still dont know what you mean by Hughesnet's DNS servers. How do you change servers? Did you try using Google's while directly connected to the modem not over WiFi. But the HughesNet WiFi should work being its built in the modem. I am not a fan of the built in WiFi so I really dont want to test it on mine. (I'd have to turn the WiFi on to test)

I just connected my laptop directly to the modem and tried going to www.systemcontrolcenter.com and it worked. So I guess its my router thats stopping it. Does anyone know what I can / should do to get it working with my router?

Others are having issues with XBOX and PS4 there are other posts if you want to look through and read them. I dont know if your issue is the same as others but engineers are aware of some issues and working on a fix in the coming weeks.

To use your own router just plug it into one of the jacks on the back of the HT2000W modem. Everything in your router will still be set how it was and you can connect to your network as you always did before upgradeing to the HT2000W. You do not have to connect to the HughesNet WiFi. I went to WiFi settings and turn all the wireless connections off in my HT2000W and only use my old router. To turn it off, go to 192.168.0.1 click WiFi Settings on the left enter password (default is admin - if you have not changed it) Then next to SSID Enable uncheck the box, click save settings -- Click on 5Ghz and uncheck the box next to SSID Enable as well, click save settings.

If its something that needs changed to be able to use the web address, Why do they advise people to go to www.systemcontrolcenter.com just going to cause more confusion with the basic person. I know what is meant if someone says system control center so I know where to go (I know both methods are listed in posts)

I believe with my Spaceway HN9000 modem I was able to open it that way, but I was always used to typing 192.168.0.1 so always used that. It sounds like with Gen5 it does not accept www.systemcontrolcenter.com ??

I see posts in different threads about going to www.systemcontrolcenter.com .... Nothing loads for me on my Gen5 system. I get a The connection has timed out message. I can load 192.168.0.1 with no problem. Why wont it load going to the web address as well? Any other Gen5 users have this issue as well?

I couldnt remember what was recommened to run tests on I thought I seen someone say 12 so thats what I was using for most and as you could tell the one jumped up to 73.4 MB. I think the 50 was directly connected to the modem. I have tested 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz connections with my WD Router. The last test I ran was with my laptop using the 5G connection on the WD Router (20.59 Mbps) It is not a daily reset.. ( @GabeU I guess you were on the 20 day reset) I have noticed my usage was reset 3 or 4 times already in 7 hours. Yea I am going to wait and make sure it keeps resetting at least tomorrow as well. Then I will do more if it does. I might even let the kids have full access for a while ... or is that too much LMAO..

@GabeU Your Gen5 was on the 20 day reset correct? After the 20 days did your month restart or did you have the remainder of the month to use your plan data? My account shows Allowance Resets in 29 days. On the HN9000 system there was a Troubleshooting option in the System Control Center. I dont see a Troubleshooting for Gen5. Is there anyway to test if there is a problem and then reset the connection. I also do not see anywhere to Restart the modem. Is the only way to restart by unplugging the power?

Yeah, Basic is best for most people. If it wasnt for my niece and nephew I would possibly give the built in WiFi a try. But then again I have multiple devices and tablets and the Kindle Fire tablets I have like to do random system updates with out warning and you cant turn off auto update for the system updates. Some of the speed tests that I ran were quite slow. I was tested and ran tests on different connections. Started with my WD Router and it was extremely slow. Did tests with the built in WiFi and direct. I have to say I did get a bit speed test happy LOL.... Some of the tests I ran on testmy.net kept going up to higher data usage. I didnt really do much except speed tests and test a few websites and played a game for about 20 mins and my usage meter showed I used 500 MB in about 2 hours... That is how mine is as well. When first opening Browser and going to a site it is takes a little while for it to load, or loading a new site on an additional tab. Thats good to know that the lower signal is better with the Gen5 system. With just having Gen5 for about 6 hours and the little that I have been doing and testing everything I find it to be fantastic as well. I am not a fan of the WiFi though. I dont know how the distance is with it, but I do not think I will be using it unless they add some much needed features. I have Gargoyle-Router firmware installed on a Western Digital MyNet N750 dual ban router. There is a Quota usage feature in Gargoyle, so I can set all my devices to a certain Download limit and then Throttle or Shut Down all Internet Access for the device once the limit is reached. I have found it to work great with the 375 daily limit I had with my Spaceway System. With 2 children under 16 in the house the Quota Limits are much needed! I have my WD Router hanging on wall so its pretty much out of the way. I was just thinking about putting a small shelf on the wall to sit the HT2000 on it to get it up off the desk and out of the way. Plus I dont like all the holes that are on the top. The holes are pretty BIG! Bringing up the Modem, what I researched I was thinking it would be MUCH larger than it is. I was thinking it would be a few inches taller and wider. But it is a decent size, but weird with all the big openings and how its shaped.

My upgrade was done today, I am faily happy with the Gen5 system and speeds. It is better than the HN9000 Spaceway system I had. I was unable to load alot of flash embedded pages correctly. With Gen5 these pages load with out a problem. There is a slight delay in loading pages at times though, is anyone else having this issue? I see someone did post about sluggish pages but I dont know if everyone is having the problem. Question on the dish install... All my previous systems had a ground wire attached to the feed horn on the arm of the dish. The installer did not attach the ground wire this time. Does anyone else have a ground wire attached to theirs? (The installer chopped the one cable and ground wire off back behind the dish) I have been seeing signal strength of 100 for my system, My HN9000 had signal strength in the mid 100's with max around 160. I hope 100 will hold up good in heavy rain and snow with Gen5.
