HughesNet Voice uses advanced Voice-over-IP (VoIP) technology to deliver a feature-rich home phone service over your satellite connection. The service uses a device called an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter), which will route your calls through your satellite modem and dish – just like that!
HughesNet Voice is optimized to work over your satellite connection, so (unlike third-party voice applications) it doesn't interfere with your Internet use and doesn't affect your plan's monthly Data Allowance.
*$19.95 offer represents a $10 monthly savings for three months. After three months, the monthly fee reverts to $29.95. 24-month commitment required. Other restrictions may apply. Offer void where prohibited. Offer ends 3/31/17.
**Transfers of existing telephone number not always available, and your new telephone number may not be a local number. Service is subject to our HughesNet Voice Subscription Agreement and Reasonable Use Policy. Service (including 911 / emergency services) will not function during periods of Internet service outage. Additional voice adapter equipment required. Call or go online to check service availability for your location.
***$75 savings on HughesNet Voice equipment available to new subscribers only. 24-month commitment required. Other restrictions may apply. Offer void where prohibited. Offer ends 3/31/17.

I signed up for voice yesterday online after my GEN5 upgrade and got a confirmation email that my plan had changed... but nothing about equipment being sent to me. What can I expect?

Hi Larry,
Since you ordered HughesNet Voice yesterday, I think you should be receiving another e-mail about getting started with your new Voice service. Your HughesNet Voice analog telephone adapter (ATA) will be shipped to you and can be activated without the need of a tech.
Once the ATA arrives, you can use the printed guide that comes with it or the info here: http://voice.hughesnet.com/activate/innomediaJ2.cfm
There's a nice video showing the setup process so you're clear on how to hook up the ATA. That page also has the link to start the Voice service activation process.
If you have additional concerns, feel free to start a new thread so we can help.

Thanks, I got my ATA today from UPS and it's hooked up and running well. Voice calls sound fine. The instructions on your link are a bit better than the ones that came in the provided booklet.
Thanks again,
Larry
P. S. you have been a lot of help to me in the past 😀

I seriously thought about signing up to the HughesNet Voice when I upgraded to Gen 5, but the inability to get a ''local'' number whether by porting my existing AT&T land line number or even getting a new number as long as it has our same area code (and ideally prefix_ made me decide against it. We stlll want to be able to give out a ''local'' number to friends and neighbors. We do know people on our road who only have local calling on their home phone (i.e. don't have long distance service activated on their home phones) and arev using calling cards for their LD calls. It does not seem neighborly to have them having to use their Long Distance calling card to call us a mile down the road.
Will HughesNet Voice be able to offer ''local'' numbers in the future?

I understand that Hughesnet can't make guarantees regarding whether or not your current number can be ported, so before I committed, I placed a call to at&t - they provide my home phone landline service. They did some checking and confirmed that my number can be ported. Hope that helps you in your decision making process.

jprodr19, it is my understanding that all local landline numbers are owned by the Telco providers in the end. That is why you have to request from them to get a number ported to HughesNet. The Telco can refuse port requests if they wish. I kind of doubt HughesNet will go out to all the providers and try to purchase local numbers from them, especially if the customer never requests the number they already have be ported.
I don't think there are large blocks of local landline numbers just lying around for any provider who wants to just snatch them up.
Perhaps one of the mods will provide the official answer.

Hi jprodr19,
Thanks for posting and welcome to the community! HughesNet Voice does offer local numbers wherever available. I'm sorry to hear there are none offered in your area and I do apologize for this inconvenience. Very good of you to check first before buying.
