More Slow 5 Gen download speeds

My upload speeds are consistently higher than download speeds. Download speeds are consistently less than 2mbs. Its got to be better than this. Hughes tech support has been useless to this point. I read a post about satellite connection and Beam ID, here's my connection. Can anybody help?

Satellite NameEchoStar-19-NAD

Can you post a few speed test results?  Normally, it's asked that people perform tests at testmy.net, but recently it's been having difficulties, so the reps are open to tests from other sites, like Hughes' own speed test and Speedtest.net, and others.  In addition to the aforementioned testmy.net, I would stay away from fast.com, as its speed test results can be affected by the Video Data Saver, as well as the test using a lot of data when the Video Data Saver is turned off.

When you run your speed tests, if you have the abilitiy it would be best to run them with a device that is directly connected to the HughesNet modem with LAN cable rather than via WiFi.  It would also be best to disable the WiFi in the HT2000W modem while running the speed tests so that nothing else is sapping any bandwidth at the same time.  If you are unaware of how to disable the WiFi in the HT2000W, please see section 6 of the following PDF...    http://customer.kb.hughesnet.com/Documents/1041318-0001_a.pdf

I don't know how to post the speed test results, but they are consistently under 2mbps. My upload speeds are faster. I'm using phone to run them because my desktop won't connect to the router wirelessly. My installation tech wouldn't install my router near my desktop, it would have required more effort on his part.

Your download speeds actually look to be decent, overall, though the upload speed from the test shown looked a good bit low.

What is it that you're doing that seems to be suffering from a speed issue?

I have a fire stick, trying to stream movies. It's disappointing to hear you say the download speeds look decent, because I can't even get a movie to start connected to satellite modem. It'll start and play connected to my DSL modem, just has to stop and buffer every 4-5 minutes.

Have you tried turning off (or pausing) the Video Data Saver to see if it makes a difference?

What is Video Data Saver?

No
How?

You can turn it off, or pause it (Snooze) for four hours, through the "Video Settings" in the HughesNet Usage Meter.  Or, you can sign in to the HughesNet MyAccount site and click on Settings (under the My Account header).

Many people prefer to pause it rather than turning it off in case they might forget to turn it back on.  Having it on helps to save data when watching Youtube videos and streaming, but if your streaming is done in HD, it can cause a lot of buffering.

Just checked settings, it's on.

Okay.  It's on by default.  Pause it (Snooze) or turn it OFF, then try streaming again.

Got a call from Tier 4 support today while I was out, left a message for me to call back, but the pin he gave me was not valid?? What do i do now?

I take it that pausing, or turning off, the Video Data Saver made no difference?

Turning off the video data saver did help. But I still get a lot of buffering every few minutes. Tier 4 support called again while I was gone and left the same invalid pin number. How do call them back?

I'm not sure how it all works, but I do know what without a valid pin you can't get through.  Why they are giving you an invalid one I don't know.  Hopefully the reps on here, which I will tag so they see this thread, can help you.

Well, the site visit went well, the tech told he was getting 18MB/s download speeds after he adjusted the beam angle.

I ran a speed test of my own and these results are the worst I've seen yet........take a look below.

No, web pages take much longer to open.

Good morning Daryl,

Thanks for the clarification. Do you have a testmy.net account? It would be best to create an account there so we can pull up your testmy.net results URL and view any past speed tests and others as engineering needs it. For the most accurate tests, please run them while directly connected to the HughesNet modem. This eliminates any wifi issues (for example, your diagnostics show that you may not be getting the best wifi coverage on your network).

After running three speed tests, post your test results link here in your thread.

Most important points to remember during this test:

-do the tests while directly connected to the HughesNet modem with a LAN cable

-use the 25MB size download test file

-space each test at least 5 minutes apart

-post your results URL, it may look something like http://testmy.net/quickstats/C0RR0SIVE

For a more in depth guide on running the tests, please visit: http://customer.kb.hughesnet.com/Pages/7001.aspx

Your cooperation, patience, and understanding are much appreciated.

Liz,

I connected a laptop to the modem via CAT5 cable, created an account on testmy.net, ran a few test with the 25 MB file. Below is the link.
