Question about D-Link router settings...

I just set up a new D-Link router, as my Netgear router was getting a little temperamental.  The settings are nothing like my Netgear settings, which actually had a program to get into them.  With the D-Link it's through the address bar.  The only options it gives me in the wireless settings is  "Disable Wireless Security (Not recommended)" and "AUTO-WPA/WPA2 (Recommended)".  I imagine I would choose the 2nd, right?

I often see people saying to disable WAP, but I don't see anything for it.

Any help as to what settings I need to change, what to change them to, and how to change them would be greatly appreciated.

Also, does D-Link have a program, like Netgear does, so that you can get into more advanced settings, or is the address bar method and the few things that are able to be changed through such the only way?

Thanks for the help.

To add, I just figured how to get into the advanced settings, but I still don't see anything for WAP.

Also, this mydlink service isn't like a regular cloud service, like OneDrive, that's going to suck up my bandwidth, is it?  If so, how do I turn it off?

Whatever it is that everyone always says to turn off.  I guess that's it.

Re: Question about D-Link router settings...

Me thinks WPA not WAP. Should set to WPA-2 with AES encryption.

If router doesn't have WPA2 with AES then better off disabling it. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/use-aes-tkip-faster-wi-fi-network/

Re: Question about D-Link router settings...

Should I use the setting mentioned above, AUTO-WPA/WPA2, or should I use the "WPA2 Only" setting in advanced settings?

I'm trying to find one of the posts regarding what is always recommended to be disabled/turned off.

WPA2 only and AES if that is an option as in the article I linked. Note last paragraph "The Bottom Line".

Is it an ac router? That;s all I have anymore.

Re: Question about D-Link router settings...

Okay, I set the Security Mode to "Enable WPA2 Only Wireless Security (Enhanced)" and set the Cipher to AES.  BTW, the modem is a DIR-619L.
