"The sales rep should have been more forthcoming about streaming. People can stream with HughesNet, but it's not made for cord cutting, or doing a lot of streaming. " @GabeU, maybe the sales rep did mention this and the customer misunderstood or misheard -- it's happened before and we used to see that often when the transcripts of sales calls were posted. Without a sales call transcript, we can't be sure if the fault actually does lie with the sales rep. Has the OP requested a sales call review?

Click on the white and red SUPPORT button, and that will take you to another page with 3 huge blue buttons. The one on the far left reads CUSTOMER SUPPORT and it has the number underneath.

This is a tech support site, so if your family's using up that much data, you may want to use the site for what it was intended and perhaps get some help figuring out what you or your family can do to use the data allowance better. Satellite is a different technology from cable internet, and it is metered, so you and your family may need to be more frugal with your use. (I'm a customer, not an employee). "I agree. The internet is slow at best. The description of their services is a laugh. My family could use up 10 GB in 2 days of streaming."

If they have a monopoly, it's because no one else gives a fig about bringing internet to rural areas. No one's keeping Comcast out; they just don't care because there aren't enough customers for them to give a rat's behind about coming in. So Hughesnet brings internet that's much better than what you could get if they weren't around. But given that you're lucky enough to live in a free country, you can always go with the other options you may have in your area, bad as they likely are, or you can go without internet, or you can move to a place that has cable. No one's forcing you to have a service you don't like. yes, it does suck. The company has a virtual monopoly in many areas in this country, so they do what they want with no accountability to anyone.

You may have to pay an early termination fee if you're still under contract. See http://legal.hughesnet.com/ServiceTermsAndConditions-current.cfm To avoid equipment charges, you will also need to return the equipment (modem, power pack, and the radio from the dish). You will get a kit to return the equipment when you cancel the account.

The Hughesnet reps are off for the holiday and will be back tomorrow. In the meantime, did you try unplugging it and leaving it be for about a minute before plugging it back in? That has helped me when it doesn't respond to resetting.

A wifi booster only increases the coverage, extends the area where wifi is received. It's likely you're using more data for other reasons.

This is from legal.hughesnet.com: If you cancel after activation but before the end of your 24-month term commitment, you will be charged a Service Termination Fee of up to $400. The exact amount of the Service Termination Fee will be $400 for the first ninety (90) days after activation of the HughesNet Service. Thereafter, the amount will decrease by $15 per month for each month of active Service. If your service is new enough, your sales call may still be available for the Hughesnet staff to retrieve and listen to, so they can verify what the sales agent told you. If you were misled by the sales agent, you may be able to get a reduced ETF. The Hughesnet reps will be back on tomorrow (Tuesday). Edit: If you leased your equipment , you need to return your HughesNet modem, power supply, and radio in good condition within 45 days of cancellation date or be charged a $300 Unreturned Equipment Fee ($100 for the modem and power supply and $200 for the radio transmitter).
