It's not a scam, @Earlzwow. It's a business that sells data packages, splitting the finite, limited data from the satellite into packages for over a million users. As a business, they operate under the law, and they operate under policies to make sure the finite data is divided fairly. When you use up your allowance, you're not cut off; you're throttled, and when that happens, you have no access to data hogs like streaming. Two weeks into the month you have used your data allowance. Your household is the one using the data.HN sells you a data package; they don't use the data for you. Streaming consumes enormous amounts of data. The fair access policy is there to provide fair access to all subscribers, as satellite data is a limited amount, not infinite. It's different from terrestrial internet such as cable or fiber. It's up to users to budget their data so it lasts the whole month. It seems it makes you feel better if you blame the other party, but you're the one using the data, not them. Perhaps your time would be better served contacting your representatives and asking them to bring fast internet into your area. Fast internet companies aren't interested in rural areas or other areas of low population density, so they stay away. Contact them and ask them why they can't be bothered with rural areas.

@Remy , the issue has not been resolved, though the forwarding did work for a couple of hours before it stopped. Could you see if there's a solution for this issue? It's not a huge deal, but having the ability to forward notifications to another email address is very useful. Thanks.

I think we can all sympathise with your frustrations. However, that still doesn't make the company a scam. It's a business, subject to and operating under business laws. And they have a tech support site (this one) where you can reach out to people who can help you. There are things you can do: You can call the 800 number and ask if you can downgrade -- keep in mind that this might initiate a new contract. Ask them about this before you agree to downgrade. You can work with the reps on this site. They are very helpful and they will try to improve your experience. If they can't, you may have some recourse with regards to the service termination fee. Remember though that this is satellite internet, so it's not like cable or fiber. Keep your expectations realistic. If all else fails, you can go into arbitration to resolve your grievance. See section 5 of the subscriber agreement, which explains the arbitration procedure. Best of luck to you.

The Hughesnet reps on this site can help with your issue; you don't have to keep using overheating equipment. To cancel, you will need to call 866-347-3292. You may have to pay an early termination fee if you're still under contract. What are "principle payments"? If you're talking about your Hughesnet payments, you have a due date, so you should pay by the due date. If you're talking about some other kind of payment, this is not the right place to find an answer to that.

It's easy to use up 200 GB in 6 days if you're doing activities that use up your data. HN doesn't use it for you; you do. And there are no caps. You continue to have data when you have used up the package you bought, just at a slower speed. Once you use up the priority data package, the Fair Access Policy kicks in, and you have unlimited data, only at a slower speed. All spelled out here: https://legal.hughesnet.com/node/786 All Service Plans feature Priority Data and unlimited Standard Data. Each Hughesnet service plan (“Service Plan”) comes with an amount of Priority Data that may be downloaded or uploaded at Service Plan speeds within a billing cycle (“Priority Data”). If a subscriber uses all of their Priority Data during a billing cycle, he or she can continue using the Service using unlimited Standard Data until their Priority Data resets. Standard Data is prioritized behind Priority Data, which means that during high traffic periods, subscribers using Standard Data may experience slower speeds, which will lead to web sites responding and loading more slowly and certain activities such as video streaming or large downloads/uploads being significantly impacted.

This is not a review site. There are many such sites on the internet that you can go to review your experience with the service. This site is for account and tech help. Since you feel you were misled, your next step should be to request a sales call review, which you can do here by replying to this post and stating you would like a sales call review. If you request the review, the Hughesnet reps on this site will pull your call if it's still available and listen to both sides of the conversation to hear what was said on both sides. If you were truly misled, you may have recourse. I also suggest that you familiarise yourself with the subscriber agreement, locate here: https://legal.hughesnet.com/Home.cfm Read the disclaimers and also the section that explains how you can pursue a grievance with the company.

Hi Remy, There are no error messages. The forwarding is automatic; it’s set in the settings, so when an email comes to the HN account, it should automatically forward it. That process stopped working a few days ago. Thanks for looking into this.

I have it set up to forward to an external email account and it had been working just fine, then it suddenly stopped working a few days ago. Could you look into this, please? Leave the modem plugged in so the reps here can attempt to contact it remotely to run diagnostics and get back to you with next steps. I think you're not supposed to reset the modem unless told to do so by a tech, btw.

This is a tech and account support site, not a review site. For reviews, go to the many sites on the internet that have that specific purpose. If you'd like to troubleshoot your system, then post the relevant data, including speed tests using Testmy.net. Troubleshooting with the reps on this site is key if you want to have a chance to cancel without paying a fine. Or you can pay the fine and cancel any time and go with whatever ISP you want.

Your best bet now is to wait until one of the mods here replies to your post. Leave the modem plugged in so they can try to connect with it remotely and see what the problem may be. They may need to send you a new modem.

On September 6th you paid for October. On October 7th you will pay for November. Close to the day when they deduct the amount, they will release the invoice with the amount.

What specifically doesn't make sense to you? They bill one month in advance. If you make changes to your service plan or add/cancel additional services during the billing cycle (the current cycle), you will see that reflected on the next bill. If you upgrade your plan before the end of the current cycle, you will see the upgrade and all related fees on the next bill. Some things are recurring monthly fees and appear on every bill unless you make changes to your account or a promotion/credit ends. If you have a promotion with your plan, you will see it on your bill, and it will have a description such as 1 of 12, indicating that this is the first of 12 monthly discounts. After 12 of 12, you won't see it anymore. One time credits and one time fees are one-time only.

You're in the right place to get answers and help. The reps on this site are very helpful and they can look into this for you to see what may have happened. It may be a glitch of the modem or something similar. Given that it's Friday, you might have to wait until next week to hear from someone. The reps here are not on 24/7.
