Trade 25% Less High Speed Data for a Data Valve Option?
My family and I currently have the 20g plan. We are all very tech orientated, so the monthly data limit can feel, well... limiting. Predictably, I'm constantly playingsentry so we don't run out before the end of the month. God forbid the wifi on the ipad gets left on and downloads a multi gigabyte update overnight. It has gotten to the point that my child cheers when we run out of data early because then she can watch youtube again, albeit at lower resolution and some buffering. Something just doesn't feel right that my family cheers when we are out of data. But there are times we need the higher speed data later in the month, so I try to stretch it out as best we can. I can't speak to HughesNet's business model, but as a customer what I would really like is a data valve that would allow me to turn the high speed off when I don't want to use it and save it for when I do. I would even be willing to accept a plan for the same price but with 25% less data, if the data valve option were included. I think my family and I would get more out of our online experience and it wouldn't surprise me if we ended up not even using all of our high speed data. Please consider creating such a plan.1.3KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Unable to load Amazon, Problem Upstream From Modem
I have installed Ad Blocker Ultimate from the Chrome web store. I made sure Amazon was loading properly, then logged in to Animal Jam, then back to Amazon. No issues. But here is the weird part. The chrome browser on the tower doesn't have ad blocker installed. Yet it doesn't cause the issue any longer either. In fact, Animal Jam is National Geographic and subscription based, which is to say it does not contain ads. Ad blocker doesn't indicate any ads at Animal Jam, but it does show a lot of ads blocked at Amazon. I'll have to run a couple more tests, but at the moment, it looks like an ad at Amazon was conflicting with my laptopand sharing that conflict with the router. Animal Jam was stumbling over it, but the results don't show up on Animal Jam, they show up back at Amazon.7.2KViews0likes11CommentsRe: Unable to load Amazon, Problem Upstream From Modem
Now that I have a quick and reliable means of correcting the issue, I've turned my attention to the trigger, and I believe I found it. My daughter recently started playing at AnimalJam.com. It doesn't matter if she logs in from my laptop or the tower, either way, Amazon gets borked. I haven't a clue as to why and I'm at a bit of a dead end for what to do about it. Suggestions welcome.7.2KViews0likes14CommentsRe: Unable to load Amazon, Problem Upstream From Modem
"Two guesses what else it does" First guess: It asks for personal information and access to your facebook page. It spams your facebook friends with the same ad and releases your information to third parties for "special" offers. Second guess: It drops the firewall and installs a keylogger.6.9KViews0likes1CommentRe: Unable to load Amazon, Problem Upstream From Modem
Problem reoccured, second time today. This time I tried just rebooting the router (from web interface) and my laptop, at the same time. That did not solve the problem. I then reboot the modem (from web interface) and my laptop, at the same time. So it appears all three need to be reboot, but no issues doing that from the web interfaces.6.9KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Unable to load Amazon, Problem Upstream From Modem

Next time I will attempt rebooting just the router and laptop first.6.9KViews0likes22CommentsRe: Unable to load Amazon, Problem Upstream From Modem
Problem reoccured again today. I didn't bother clearing cookies or cache, I didn't turn off any firewalls, and I didn't turn off any anti-virus. This time I just reboot the modem, router, and my laptop, all at once and in that order, using the built-in "reboot" buttons in their respective web browser interfaces. That solved the problem, again, for the time being.7KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Unable to load Amazon, Problem Upstream From Modem
After a couple of trouble free days shopping on Amazon, the problem returned. I followed the same procedure as before and it appears to have resolved the issue, for the time being. I did a trace to Amazon while connected thru the router, both before and after the fix. Before: And After: Unfortunately, I forgot to do a trace without the router prior to the fix, but I did take a trace without the router after. Personally, I have no idea what the rest of you might see in these tea leaves. If the problem persists, I'll continue to remove steps from the solution to narrow it down.7KViews0likes38CommentsRe: Unable to load Amazon, Problem Upstream From Modem
Okay, I decided to throw everything at it at once. I unplugged the modem, router, and dish. I shutdown and restarted the laptop. I connected the modem directly to the laptop and turned everything back on. I reset the MBX, turned off web acceleration, disabled windows anti virus and windows firewall for both public and private networks. I then cleared my cache and cookies and loaded amazon.com with control-shift for full refresh. Viola! It worked. I've turned the router back on, went back to wireless, turned on my anti virus and firewall, and turned web accelaration back on. Amazon.com is loading properly! No idea what happened there.9.4KViews1like1Comment
