COVID-19 and HughesNet...
Though I understand there are situations out there where changes could help, I really hope that HughesNet doesn't do anything too drastic, or at least not data wise. A lot of people are asking on various social media sites about abandoning the high speed data caps. I simply can't imaging how bad the system would get were that to happen. It could, and likely would, slow to an absolute crawl. :(24KViews4likes62CommentsCry cry cry!
New internet service moved into my area. This one utilized white space. I checked the map, found the tower, and saw I was in range. They came out...and no signal. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! Still stuck on awful satellite service! Oh well, there's Starlink coming. In two years.18KViews0likes1CommentIt's National Puzzle Day!
What is the most difficult puzzle you've ever completed? Mine was figuring out the final episode of Lost! (lol!) Did you know the worlds largest jigsaw puzzle consists of more than 550,000 pieces? It took 1,600 people to put together! Talk about team work:smileyvery-happy: https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/news/2011/10/vietnam-puts-together-the-world%e2%80%99s-largest-jigsaw-puzzle17KViews1like13CommentsSayings that irk me
So, there are common sayings that have two ways of wording them that rub me the wrong way when I hear the expression worded a particular way. Two cases: 1. Standing "online" instead of "inline". Most everywhere I've been there is no line painted on the floor to stand "on" and I'm certainly not standing on top of anyone. Instead, I am standing "in" a line of people. 2. A "bald" faced lie instead of "bold" faced. How does someone have a bald face when it comes to their intention, shave it? Instead I was taught bold face, as a person is being pretty bold to lie to your face. Yea, I'm being a bit grammar eccentric but makes me cringe a bit when I hear them. Anyone have others? And happy voting day! Sure glad the political ads will be over although they'll probably start up with the 2020 ones before we get a real rest from it.15KViews0likes36CommentsUsing TestMy.net to compare your speed to others on your beam
I was poking around the 'TestMy.net Database' option under 'DB' on the TestMy.net page, and I noticed something that might be useful for knowing how your tests compare with other users of HughesNet that share your beam -- and thus experiencethe same "congestion" circumstances that you do. After you select 'TestMy.net Database', there is a list of details that they use to ID you -- this includes a city. As a satellite beam covers a wide area, the city I saw was some distance from me, but it appeared to be close to the center of my beam! Click the City, then click the ISPs tab, and check to if you see a speed average for HughesNet for this city which may represent the average speed for your beam. Would someone else try this and report what city you are seeing associated with your location along with your satellite beam number? This will let me know if this idea actually holds water so to speak. I have searched for others cities that I thought might be near a beam center and found some that I thought would be for Jupiter 1, VS1, and VS2 that appear to give speeds that are in the general range of what I guessed for each. Does anyone familiar with TestMy.net know how to search a provider for cities that they have records for? That would make it a lot easier to check if this is an idea with potential or just nonsense as the cities I found with records have been found with just wild guessing based on looking at a map. Now, of course, many folks that run the test use the wrong test size (too small test size and the test result is dominated by the start up time due to latency), or they are using Wi-Fi, so the average result numbers are likely to be on the low side, but if this works, then this would give a way to know if you are experiencingperformance on-par with others that share your beam.14KViews0likes37CommentsWatching Movies
Am I the only one that has trouble watching movies without interruptions. My internet speeds I assume are the problem. A movie stops about every two minutes. Then downloads another two minutes. Anyone know how to fix this? Or is Hughes just a poor choice for service.14KViews1like23CommentsNew 75 GB plan
How many folks plan to move up from the 50 GB plan to the new 75 GB plan? I had not heard of this before, but I will be getting this new plan. Is this plan of limited availability? I heard of a few unusual plans available in certain states, anybody know if this new plan will be widely available, or only available in sparselypopulated beams?13KViews0likes18Comments
