Absolutely Useless.
I have had HughesNet for close to a year now, and have been disappointed with it from day one. I just work so dang much that I haven't had the time to do this until now.Simply put, it just doesn't do whatI was promised whenI signed up. I was told that my initial package purchased would be "plenty" of data for just 1 person in the household. B.S. I was told that it would stream "HD" movies with no problem. B.S. When I called to complain, After "Checking out my service" the "Technician" i spoke with told me "Oh well", andthat what I was getting was the best I could get in my area with the current plan.I was talked into the 30gb plan and told it would have faster download/streaming speeds and would DEFINTELY be enough data for one person. Neither of those statements turned out to be true. Here's the truth of the matter: After around 15-30 minutes of connection failures, I can usually limp thru a movie (usually Netflix)streaming at a video quality just below 1970's rabbit ears, with it pausing to buffer every 3-5 minutes or sooner. The only e-mail I can send without it timing out is text only. No attachments. When I try to get on the internet, I have to go thru numerous "Unable to connect" or "Website too busy" screens before it will finally load the webpage(and then very slowly). The statement that the 30gb plan allows for 45hrs of HD streaming is complete and utter B.S. If I watch 6-7 movies a month, a little YouTube, and download a few emails, the data is gone.I am one person, who works all the time, and still run out of data every month. Its not like I'm sitting around burning thru the data all day and night. Oh, yeah, it somehow manages to use data even when all my devises are COMPLETELY turned of. As far as i am concerned This service was a complete and utter misrepresentation at best, and a down right scam at worst. Judging by the other posts I have read on here,I am far from alone in this belief. I have not been given what I was promised, not even close, and plan on terminating my subscription due to a failure to provide services promised. Digital blocking, constant buffering, and blurry video is NOT "HD". Getting mad and turning of my electronics is not the way I want to spend my precious few hours off duty.11KViews15likes30CommentsWorst service ever!!!
I was just told that I used 40% of my service in one day with 2 things running. Service in itself is terrible. I can't watch anything do to slow or no internet service. Hughesnet company are a bunch of crooks screwing over thier customers. I think it is time to spread the word and stop other people from using this crappy internet service. I also suggest we all should be calling the better business bearu.9.4KViews5likes14CommentsAbsolutely horrible service
I have HughesNet for probably a year now. I don’t think there’s ever been a month when I have good service. I have called in many times and worked with many technicians. I’ve had technician visits to my home. I can’t use my Echo; I had to disconnect my laptop; I can’t use Netflix because of buffering every 5 minutes; getting more than a few posts on FB is a hit or miss. I am now told that they can’t fix my problem. I’ve never worked with a company that can’t fix their problem. I have escalated these issues to upper management who have been no help at all. It’s very expensive and I am paying for something I certainly don’t have. Unfortunately I live in a mountainous area so I don’t have many options for service. So so frustrating! Has anyone else reached this point? How do they stay in business?6.5KViews5likes6CommentsNew Customer, HUGE MISTAKE
I’m a single father with four kids, their mom just passed away, I have my hands full and can’t afford to spend all day fixing your problems Hughes. Ihad problems with the last Internet service provider that I’ve been using for five years just recently the problem being customer service. This was a mom and pop company so I thought to my self, maybe I should go to the larger company that has more employees they could assist me…. The absolute biggest mistake of my life!! How on earth is a company this large able to scam so many people? And when I say scam yes, it’s a scam. Here’s why… I just got service installed two days ago. I still have no Internet! When the technician was out here, who by the way, was the nicest guy and did a very good job, he said everything looks good and left. I wondered why he was rushed! He probably knew! So I got on my laptop to start some work and nothing. I called customer service and they said that there was an issue that the technicians were working on. Are you kidding me? I should check it tomorrow morning and then call back. What!!!!? I got online in the morning and nothing. I was told to use the app to get in contact with tech support it’s easy… Nope!!! Not one thing is easy with this company, except getting screwed over! So I contacted tech-support. We stayed on the phone for about 30 minutes and trying to run test nothing. What’s funny is they want you to run their test and no one else’s test, so when I get on the app on my phone and run a test it’s just perfect. I got green checkmarks, but then when I try to pull up a webpage, nothing. So he is recommending that I go to the next level of tech-support. “I’m sorry sir someone will get in contact with you in 24 to 48 hours.” Dumbfounded at this! Oh and you better be prepared to sit by your phone for 48 hours because if you miss the call, they give you a return call number that is 866-855-2275… yeah it’s a fax number. Why, because they have so many problems the phone line will be overloaded with people calling them. Why give a phone number to call back if it doesn’t work? It’s a scam. So out of frustration I called it and asked to cancel my service and I was asked a couple of times if I would agree to let TECH SUPPORT FIX THE PROBLEM FIRST! Why five minutes after I agreed to do this I get this text my service has been scheduled for cancellation. Scheduled? Get this, it’s after the 30 day mark. Not surprised one bit! Listen, I’m not going to do the work for your tech-support. It’s your job. This is an issue. I’m not going to sit around all day running test and uploading crap. The installer was in my home, disrupted my entire day and said the We are good to go! I’ll let you in on a little secret, when he walked out of my door I should’ve been good to go. Anything other than good to go? It’s a scam and a lie. Twist the words, however, you want to you screwed me over. From the initial phone call I was lied to. You were dishonest about the service speeds, dishonest about the availability, dishonest about the customer support that’s supposed that will be there for you. I’m not that way, believe me when I say I refuse to be dishonest on social media in letting everyone know how you are screwing hard working families and this single father out of what little money we have.3.6KViews4likes4CommentsWorst Ever
I hate that where I live I have to have Hughesnet for a internet provider. It is the worst ever. I have had internet when I lived in New York, Spectrum was one of them and they charged me the same amount every month and I never had slow internet. I never had to purchase tokens. Hughes is ridiculous on their pricing. What they want 180.00 for I was getting in New York for 55.00 a month, no crashes, no slow-mo, no interruptions. I am so over this company. My contract is up in seven months. Hopefully by then another service provider will come into our vacinity. They are talking putting up lines. I hope they do and then Spectrum can give Huges a run for their money. Come on Huges, you know you're ripping us off. Shame on you. Greed is not becoming.6KViews4likes8CommentsHughes Net SUCKS!!
This company's customer service department needs help. They need educated on their trade and they also need to learn some manners. Worst company for internet on the face of the planet. Three times within a half hour I was disconnected becuase they claimed they "were not sure if I was still connected". The real reason? I was asking about service termination. They just acted like they couldn't see my conversation but I could see theirs perfectly.9.4KViews4likes4CommentsCOVID-19 and HughesNet...
Though I understand there are situations out there where changes could help, I really hope that HughesNet doesn't do anything too drastic, or at least not data wise. A lot of people are asking on various social media sites about abandoning the high speed data caps. I simply can't imaging how bad the system would get were that to happen. It could, and likely would, slow to an absolute crawl. :(24KViews4likes62CommentsOnline Distance/Lag Calculator
There have been numerous discussions talking about lag time in these forums, but never something that allows you to actually figure it out. So I started the process of throwing together a simple javascript-driven page that allows you to calculate the overall signal distance and lag time: Distance and Lag Time Calculator. Basically you just enter your satellite. either your gateway or beam#, and your location. It's supposed to auto-fill your location if you leave it blank, but it doesn't work just yet... in progress. It's been quickly thrown together so I haven't prettied it up yet. Mostly in the process of getting the guts to work the way it should. Not sure what the admins think of having something like this available. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the underlying information is out in the open somewhere. Leave it up? Take it down? Slap me for having too much time on my hands? Other comments?8.8KViews4likes24CommentsIt's National Have Fun at Work Day!
We try to have fun everyday. It helps keep us sane, but I guess these pictures don't really support that. Dinosaurs make terrible install technicians. They never have ultra-rare steak sandwiches... How has this company stayed on business, I have NEVER had so many issues with company in such a short amount of time (less than 2 months) this internet service is basically useless, have to disconnect cell phones from wifi as soon as we get home, have to use the hotspot on our phones to be able to take care of any business that requires the internet from our laptops. We have a smart home with Alexa, Ring Security, smart Sprinkler controller, smart Garage Door opener, etc. The rep at hughesnet stated that we have to many devices and would need to disconnect them!! WHAT!?!? This is not acceptable, we have next door neighbors that use a competitor, they have 3 kids, same smart home devices that we do and they have zero issues. Trying to cancel this useless service, but hughesnet will not listen to our concerns, all they keep saying is "you are more than welcome to cancel and pay us the $395.00 early termination fee" REALLY!?!? Force us to pay ETF when they can't provide us what we need. I am mind blown! I've had to put a block on my credit card so they dont continue to charge us, we will not pay our hard earned money for this kind of crappy service!5.4KViews4likes9Comments
