HATE this INTERNET!
The advertising for this internet company is VERY deceiving! I'm stuck only because nobody else services my house but I get MAYBE one movie a month on a plan I pay $70/month for after taxes. After that, I have to deal with constant hang ups or lags - sometimes every 2 minutes. I ended up buying a "dongle" for my TV & I attach my phone to it and use my mobile network to stream movies instead of using this worked internet. The only time I use Hughesnet is for downloading documents because I'm a book editor & need to get large documents several times a month. If there were a way to sue this company for false advertising, for claiming they have such good service with all of those smiling people on the website, on their brochure and... Ugh! DON'T BELIEVE IT! I've had Comcast, AT&T, and several other internet providers and bar none, Hughesnet is the ABSOLUTE WORST OF THE WORST! People here have mentioned a termination fee, & I swear, if I go to cancel & they want me to pay something like that, I'll have a fit! OK, did some simple math here, please correct me if I made any errors. 1. Echostar 19 has been advertised as having "up to" 220 Gbps throughput:http://spacenews.com/atlas-5-launches-echostar-19/ 2. Netflix says 5 Mbps is needed for HD streaming:https://help.netflix.com/en/node/306 3. So, divide 220 Gbps by 5 Mbps and you get the max user capacity at that speed which equals 44,000 customers. 4. In my feeble mind that says if 44,000 customers are trying to stream video at HD, at the same time of night, the satellite throughput is already maxed out. I realise there is compression and other things being used but still, 44,000 or even 50,000 doesn't seem like that many users to send things over the edge when talking a half million users at least on each of the Echostar 17 & 19 satellites. Please tell me if my math or logic is off. I know this has been addressed in a variety of previous posts but I haven’t really seen a good explanation. Using Netflix or Amazon Prime in the evenings, the stream stops to buffer every few minutes. My download speeds using Speedtest.net seem to be good so why is there excessive buffering? Is there Hughes network congestion even with good download speed? I have video saver turned off and Netflix video quality at the lowest setting. Is there anything I can do to improve this? Every night when I try to connect my Roku I have 0 mbps connection. And most days if I have 1 mpbs I am lucky. I am sick and tired of this crap internet..but again have no choice because of where I live. See attached screen shots.. and no..I am not going to run speedtest because it always seems to be fine..but as you can see..it is not. I am trying to figure out if a local company is as fast as Hughes net. The local company, I believe goes over cellular. They are telling me they have no data caps but do cap speed and 4 megaBITS per second. I don’t understand the difference in megaBITS and megabytes. I currently have the business75 plan. It’s very slow but ok for basic website access but evening video streaming is pretty much unusable with frequent buffering and freezes. I wanted to look into the possibility that residential service would be ok for daytime web access with improved video streaming in the evening. What is involved in changing to residential and what are the differences I would see in service. I’m currently working from home during the day requiring website access to secure sites and , uploading/downloading of files. First off, let me say that I completely hate the HughsNet internet / streaming. I live in the middle of what used to be a horse pasture, with no trees around me at all. There should be no interference because of this. From the get go, almost 2 years ago, we haven't been able to stream ANY television and the internet has been even worse at times. I have trouble opening the internet on a daily basis, whether it's night or day. I'm constantly reconnecting or even restarting altogether. So if the ads say HughesNet is great for country people there's no truth to it. Some people may like it, but I don't.
