Flashing 'phone' icon on the Hughesnet Voice box - what does that mean?

This morning I noticed the light by the 'phone' icon flashing on the little box for Hughesnet Voice and I don't hear a dial tone.

There are three icons:  There is a steady light by the power icon, a flashing light by the phone icon, and a steady light by the globe icon.

It clearly has power, and it is connected to the network as I can see the Hughesnet Voice box listed on the connected devices, but the phone icon is flashing.

I can see from the logs it looks like it did some small network activity at 10:30am, 11:15am, and 11:30am.

Is there an outage going on that knocked out the phone network?   What does the flashing phone icon mean?

Thanks

The reps should be back on tomorrow. Hopefully they will reply then. In the meantime, you could also call the 800 number for support. It's 866-347-3292.

  • I tried powering down everything, but I still have a flashing 'phone' icon and no dial tone.

    I tried:

    1. unplugging the Hughesnet Voice unit.

    2. unplugging the Hughesnet Modem

    3. I waited a while

    4. plugged the Hughesnet modem back in and waited over 5 minutes to be sure that internet access returned

    5. I plugged the Hughesnet Voice unit back in

Same result: power is on to the Hughesnet Voice unit, the connection globe light is lit up, but the phone light is flashing instead of steady and there is no dial tone

I noticed when it is powered up the lights on the Hughesnet Voice unit go through this pattern:

    1. the power light comes on
    2. the system access globe light comes on and strobes a bit then it is steady
    3. the phone light comes on briefly then it shuts off
    4. the system access globe light strobes a bit more like more data is being exchanged
    5. the phone light comes on blinking and there is no dial tone
