Geostationary satellite internet has a latency of 600+ ms. Absolutely nothing can be done about this. The round trip distance of the signal travel is upward of 90,000 miles.
Something on your system is burning through data. You need to find out what it is. If you have it connected to a DirecTV receiver, this could very well be the culprit.
