Useage Meter update in real time?

Is there any way that my useage meter can update itself in real time? I keep it open on my PC which is near my TV & when I stream something on Netflix, the meter never changes until I close & re-open it or switch between screens. TIA

Good morning,

Thanks for getting back to me! Try the following steps and let me know if it helps at all:

  • Start > Settings > Network & Internet
  • From this page you should see your local network, be it wired or wireless.
  • Under "Change your network settings" click "Change adapter options"
  • A new window will open and you will see your network connections.
  • One of them should be in the category "internet access", possible labeled Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
  • Right click that icon and select "Properties"
  • From the new popup box, click "Configure"
  • Yet another box... Click on the tab labeled "Power Management"
  • Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
  • Click OK

Please let me know if you don't see a certain setting or option.

My meter always updates in real time.  I wonder why yours doesn't.  Weird.  I'm sure someone here will help you figure it out; hang in there.

Hi El_Dub,

I may know what is going on here... Are you using a laptop or desktop and what operating system?

Desktop with Windows 10

It should update periodically, say every 1-2 minutes or so. The modem polls your usage from the system every so often, and the app polls the modem every so often, albeit not necessarily at the same time.

The process cuts down on network congestion so everyone's not tying the system up with status pings.
If you need a more immediate update, just click on the area you're already on and it will force it to refresh the display with the most current data at the modem.
