I can't seem to send any emails

Thanks to all who helped.
What finally worked was a combination:
Incoming:
mail.hughes.net
SSL/TLS
Port 995
Outgoing:
smtp.hughes.net
Auto
Port 587
Thanks to all that assisted me.

Have you tried
Clearing history, cache, cookies on your browser?
Changing the settings as per this post?

In addition, if you're using POP, try this: IMAP / POP: http://email.hughes.net port 143

Glad to hear you found what works for you, and thank you for sharing which settings you used. I've relayed this back to our e-mail admins. Hopefully they won't find any issue with these particular settings, but if they have any comments, I'll let you know.
