Phone # Porting Problems
Just to close this out for any others that may who may have a similar issue:
There is a wide variety of VoIP phone services that are a much better value than those offered by the internet service providers. Overall equipment costs are much less when purchased vs leasing and existing phone numbers still port over to the applicable VoIP service that is chosen.
Based on what I have learned I'll be signing up to Ooma by one-time purchasing their TELO device, paying a one-time porting fee for my existing # then only monthly local taxes and fees for service while using my existing DECT phone. All these costs pay back in less than 6 months of equipment rental fees from the ISP. It also has the option of adding full function Ooma digital handsets in the future if desired.
Had I done this research ahead of time I would not have considered using my ISP for phone service.
