The service is not a scam; it is a legitimate service provided by a legitimate business. HughesNet sells you a data package. It does not use the data; you and/or your household use the data. Like a checking account, you have to be able to budget your available data so it will last you the whole month. The data package is not unlimited -- it can be used very quickly if you engage in data-intensive activities such as streaming. If you run out of data, you can buy data tokens or you can buy a bigger data package; but all those solutions will be limited. Ultimately, you have to learn to budget. To know how much data you can use in 24 hours, divide the size of your data package by the number of days in the month. For example, if you have a data package of 100 GB, you can use around 3.2 GB a day. That can be used up very quickly if you stream or watch live TV. It doesn't matter how many times you call. The company can't budget your data use; that's up to you. You can get out of the contract if it doesn't work for you, but you will have to pay a fee. All of this information is available for free to anyone -- just read the subscriber agreement to know the limitations of the service. Anyone considering subscribing should make an informed decision before locking themselves into a contract. You HAVE received what you contracted for. You didn't read the contract carefully.

@Jamie388 , The reps will troubleshoot the system with you to see if they can improve your experience, but since speeds are not guaranteed (because they depend on many factors, including, but not limited to, latency, beam load, weather issues at user's location or at gateway location, and the laws of physics, they may not be able to give you more than what you're currently experiencing. Hopefully the reps will help you set realistic expectations so you can enjoy the service as much as possible.

"Was told by chat reps before allowing the service to be installed that there was a 30 day guarantee on the service." You were misinformed. Please see the subscriber agreement: https://legal.hughesnet.com/node/771 "If you cancel after activation but before the end of your 24-month term commitment, you will be charged a Service Termination Fee of up to $400. The exact amount of the Service Termination Fee will be $400 during the first ninety (90) days after activation of the Hughesnet Service. Thereafter, the amount will decrease by $15 per month for each month of active Service." The reps here will want to troubleshoot with you and see if they can make your experience better, but keep in mind that performance is not guaranteed. See the subscriber agreement: "Stated speeds, low-latency and uninterrupted use of the Service are not guaranteed. Actual speeds will likely be lower than the maximum speeds during peak hours. In addition, when connected to the Service using Wi-Fi, the user’s experience will vary based on the proximity to the Wi-Fi source and the strength of the signal." Hopefully a rep will connect with you soon.

@Isabellahoover9 They're going to need more information and context from you. When did the issue start? Are there any state codes showing on the system control center screen? (You don't need the internet to access this, but you do need Wi Fi enabled). How many and which lights are off on your modem? Is there or has there been bad weather in your area? Etc.

This code means there is inclement weather at the Gateway OR at your location. This code is transitory in nature, but if your system doesn’t return to an operational status after a few hours, it makes sense to contact HughesNet; which you have done. Here are 6 ways to try to fix this: https://www.hostinger.com/tutorials/err_name_not_resolved You say you flushed the DNS -- make sure you follow the instructions to the letter. If you leave a device connected, it can poison the DNS again. To clear a possible DNS problem: 1. Turn off all of the devices using the modem (all phones, iPads, computers, etc.) 2. Unplug the modem's power from the wall socket. 3. Wait a minute, then plug the modem back in. 4. Wait about 5 minutes after all the lights on the modem are back on, then turn all your devices on one-by-one.

The fact that you can login with one browser indicates the issue is with your browser or computer. Have you checked for updates? Do you have an ad blocker? Are you using a VPN? Have you tried using Edge’s incognito mode?

Yeah, sounds like something may have affected the dish. At this point, your best bet is to call them back. You can also wait until one of the HN reps here sees your post and replies to it, but this might not be until sometime on Monday at the earliest. The customer service line is open 24/7. I hope this gets solved for you quickly.

You may have to call them back to tell them the internet is still down and that you have the same code even though the weather has cleared. Have you tried unplugging the modem, waiting a few minutes, and then restarting it? May not help, but just in case.

Yesterday I posted a reply to a post by user playstation. That post was modified without my permission, and not by me. Someone added offensive tags to my post, and I would like the person who did this to be sanctioned. If you're getting an error when trying to send a private message, just wait a few minutes and try again. Beware of double clicking the "send" button, because even if you do it unintentionally, it will lock you from sending messages for a few minutes.

What error message(s) are you getting? The HN reps on this site work business hours M-F, but sometimes one or two of them are around later than that. Your best bet is to wait until one of them sees your message and gets involved in your case.

"my 115.8 Data Tokens have now also disappeared. That is money out of my pocket as I paid for those tokens that are never supposed to expire so I would like in addition to the usage issue resolved for my 115.8 Data Tokens to be put back into my account." They can easily restore those tokens; the other issues are more complicated. Hope this gets solved quickly for you.

Oh, that's because they don't support Web Acceleration anymore. That used to be for non-secure sites (http), but now most of the Web is secure (https), and so they did away with Web Acceleration.

That state code is just the FAP code. What other errors do you see? About the weather: weather at the ground station location can also affect the signal.

Go to your system control center -- this is where you see modem information. It doesn't need the internet to function, but it does need the wifi to be working. If the wifi isn't working, you will need to connect your device directly to the modem.

Might be related to the storm, might be something at the ground station (which is always in another state from the user's), or something else. What beam are you on? Edit: I see Damian has already replied to you. Hopefully he can connect to your modem and figure out what's going on.

Are they using a local ISP? Where I'm at, the fiber provider is local, so I imagine they have incentive to increase their customer base by expanding their reach. When all this started, they asked people who were interested to "sign up" for the upcoming service, and those of us who did will allegedly get fiber installed ahead of others in the county. Doesn't mean they're fast, of course. I've heard from people who have the service that they're good and responsive once you're receiving their customer. Seeing is believing, though. 🤣🤣 Best of luck to you! Fingers crossed for a November install!

Everything is done here, except for the micro-trenches and dropping the line to the house. Absolutely everything else is done; the electric company worked very diligently, but the fiber ISP is taking its sweet time. I hope your November date is correct! Here things are moving very slowly for two of the areas. Everyone else already has fiber service. It was also practically impossible to get information from these companies. I ended up contacted the electric company, and someone involved in the fiber project there was very kind to provide information, plus evidence that their part of the project was done and now it was up to the fiber ISP. After getting no replies from them for over a year, I eventually heard from them and they said they expected to be done with everything by the end of 2025. I'll believe it when I see it. 🤣🤣🤣 I have to wonder how reliable they are, which is one of the several reasons I'm holding on to Hughesnet for a while (provided I can actually have both the satellite and fiber at the house; I don't know if that's possible). Hughesnet (IME) has been reliable and responsive.

I agree with you that the evening congestion is likely what's tanking your speeds. As for fiber, my state received federal funds to bring fiber to all the areas that have no terrestrial internet access. It is a SLOW process. They've been working on it in my area for at least 3 years now. The only thing left is for the fiber company to dig the micro-trenches that will bring the fiber to the homes, and then do the connections. I contacted the provider to ask when they were expecting to actually do all this, and they said it would take until the end of 2025. The original estimate, stated in the first letter we got from the company, was also a year (end of 2023). I still plan to keep Hughesnet as a backup, but would like to also have terrestrial internet. All this to say that the wait for your fiber service might be longer than they say it will be. I hope it takes only a year for you, but be prepared to wait longer.

I believe you'd have to sign up for a 2 year contract. Also, you may or may not see an improvement; it's not guaranteed at all. If you're anticipating fiber service within the next year, your best bet may be to stay as you are.

According to the subscriber agreement: All service plan speeds are “up to” and are not guaranteed. Your speeds may have changed due to more congestion in the area, more accounts opened, etc.
