Phone # Porting Problems
I have tried to port my phone number FROM HughesNet TO Windstream/Kinetic now that I have access to high speed fiber but it appears that Windstream in unable to bring the number to their service. Can someone give me a better explanation than what I've received from the ISPs and if there is any kind of work around.
Windstream is telling me that since my Hughsnet phone number is in a different "region" that they cannot get it from Hughsnet, I have absolutely NO option for porting over. Ive had this # for 30+ years and really want to retain it.
Is it possible to use a 3rd party phone service to bring the number back into my local "region" and then port to Windstream?
Thanks, Bruce

Just to close this out for any others that may who may have a similar issue:
There is a wide variety of VoIP phone services that are a much better value than those offered by the internet service providers. Overall equipment costs are much less when purchased vs leasing and existing phone numbers still port over to the applicable VoIP service that is chosen.
Based on what I have learned I'll be signing up to Ooma by one-time purchasing their TELO device, paying a one-time porting fee for my existing # then only monthly local taxes and fees for service while using my existing DECT phone. All these costs pay back in less than 6 months of equipment rental fees from the ISP. It also has the option of adding full function Ooma digital handsets in the future if desired.
Had I done this research ahead of time I would not have considered using my ISP for phone service.
