Slow Speeds What's Up ?
Got an email asking if I accepted the solution- um...don't know.
I had a courtesy tech visit Friday. He didn't find anything obvious, only a slight tweak of the dish aim.
I told him speeds are good as the tests show in the early Am, then degrade. How much degradation is acceptable?
Are we back to a congestion problem as with Gen5 ?
He said if they want, he can come back and change the horn radio, and modem. It's up to you, unless what I have is normal, the degradation of speeds later in the day. I'm not buffering yet, always use 360 dpi not trying for HD, that never is possible. Any reply is appreciated. Thanks
eco,
Thank you for reaching back out! We're sorry to hear the technician visit didn't seem to fully resolve the issue. In regards to the speed degradation, you should still expect a small change during peak hour usage, but not a degradation to that level, or during the times you've highlighted. It doesn't seem your beam is currently experiencing issues, as we'd be able to identify if you're experiencing a high amount of congestion in the area, or if the beam itself is experiencing technical issues. I'll have your case escalated, so our team can take a further look into it! We'll let you know when we receive an update. Please let us know if and at what time the service degrades tonight.
Thanks,
Remy

Likely a combination of things:
1. It's football season - people stream games. Congestion always increases every fall, especially on Thus evening, and all day Sat/Sun.
2. The weather has been crummy - more people indoors trying to use internet.
3. Hurricanes and general rainy weather (not to mention falling leaves) contributing to poor links between dish and satellite, as well as satellites to ground stations. When links are poor, it causes an increase in repeated packet sends, which inherently increases congestion. You might not be in an affected area, but consider that multiple users around the country that are also routed to your ground station might.

Remy- Thanks for your quick reply. I'll take speed tests at noon, and later in the day. The degradation is considerable comparing mornings to evenings on 9.2 so far todays speeds are:

Speed did degrade some as the data shows later in the day, but not that bad. Thanks
Here's the data for 9.4 Am -

Today-9.5 report shows poor performance. Last nite very slow, this Am markedly slow compared to other mornings at this time. No other apps were running. I doubt congestion at 4:40 Am Pst . What's up? Thanks

eco,
Thank you for the update! I will pass this along. Just to make sure, are you experiencing any state codes when experiencing these slower speeds?
Thanks,
Remy

Remy- the state code was 0.00
Here's a summary- Thanks

9.13.24 I have had 2 calls from Hughes tier4 support. Javier yesterday, and Ephraim today. It appears our beam is having some congestion problems (who knew) ? with all the ads (ugh). No Mas !
Ephraim had me reset the modem, and check the state codes, he was great. I have a new pin for next week, and the tier 4 phone #.
I cannot say enough how great Hughes has been for me. I have never had such a support response (Dish Tv also great) , but Hughes- Wow.
Thanks to all who are trying to get it right. You are the best!

Update 9.19
I test in the mornings before 4:45 Am pst, and get 37mps or better. This is consistent.
On 9.18 evening-
We had an outage for a few minutes at 7:20 pst.
After restoration, I tried a Hughes speed test , I was unable to perform- too slow. I went to testmytest.com the results-

Sadly degradation of speeds tonite before 7 Pm pst.
Hughes wasn't able to perform a speed test.

The last few days, starting at noon, and in the afternoon, evening, even a downtime for about 5 mins . I have had slow speeds. At 4:30 pst , I noticed problems, I used Testmytest speed tests- 3 all under 300 mps. A state code on the control Center showed 12.1.12 . A search showed this code as a transmit problem , the post date was 2 years ago. Are the gen 6 modem state codes the same?
I appreciate the response from Hughes regarding this degradation of service. Thanks

6.27 7Pm pst I was unable to run Hughes speed tests, after slow speeds. I was unable to post here .
The state code was 12.1.12. This is the usual now in evenings. Mornings service is restored, with 30+ mps. It appears congestion is the culprit ?
- eco4 months agoJunior
As of 2 Pm pst 9.28 Testmytest speed is 300 mps down to 175.
The state code is 0.0.0 .
Is the problem congestion, over subscriptions to Hughes, or a technical problem?
I so enjoy the ads on Tv for Hughes 😞

The speed is 300Mbps down?

I think it's 0.3 Mbps.

Yes, today, and yesterday, by early afternoon, Hughes speed tests do not function, tetstmytest.com do usually, but I have had some not load.
The state codes are not bad- 0.0.0 , yesterday and before 12.1.12 , not today. Either way, you tube videos today buffered , it reminds me of Gen 4, 5. gen 6 has been good, but now , after non or so, not good. At 5 Am or earlier speeds are 30 mps and better , by noon now speeds are abysmal. The call I had from tier 4, Ephraim admitted they know there are problems. I hope they can find a solution. If it is congestion again, as with Gen4, 5, it is what it is. What can be done? Thanks for your reply.

Well, again it's 12 Pm on a Monday, the Hughes speed test is unable to connect with the test server. Not a weekend football, or dwnloading movies time. The State Code is 0.0.0 .
Testmytest speed test was under 200 Kps, or .02 Mps.
The weather is clear in Ca, and South Dakota , where I was switched to after the Gen 6 install.
Speeds are now below 200 Kps every day by noon now. I had 40+Mps Hughes speeds at 4:30 Am pst , which also is the norm.
If this is a congestion problem, I can only look forward to it worsening, unless a solution is implemented. Thanks

10.2 I noticed an outage this morning. When I tried later, Hughes was back.
I tried a Hughes speed test, and had a 404 error notice. Under that was a link for the speed test vendor and subscription prices.
Will the Hughes speed test be restored, or are we left with testmytest.com for speed tests? That tested 26+Mps. I will try later in the day to see if the speed problem continues. Thanks.
- eco3 months agoJunior
Wow, the fix is working! Thanks Hughes Techs 🙂
Hughes Speed Testing is still down.
- eco3 months agoJunior
My hopes are dashed 😞 State codes 0.0.0
