If you haven't yet set up your email, I wouldn't bother. I'd go with one of the more popular free options, like Gmail, Yahoo Mail or Outlook.com. Like most other ISPs, HughesNet is likely to shut down their email service soon. If you had set it up and you've been using it, and this is something new, that's a different story, and I hope you can get it straightened out. If this is the case, you should follow maratsade's instructions about starting a new topic.

Has anyone tried setting up the HT2000W to use the DMZ and have your router then serve as the firewall and net router. This way the HT2000W just acts as a de-facto modem?

@jwbal58 Unless you have your Windows 10 computer's WiFi set up as a mobile hotspot and every device on your network connects to the net through that computer, the only thing your "Windows 10 network status metering system" is monitoring is the data usage of the computer itself. A Windows 10 computer can't monitor the data being used by other devices that are connected to the HughesNet modem. IOW, if you have a phone, tablet, satellite TV receiver or any other device(s) connected to the HughesNet modem, the data that device(s) uses isn't going to show on your Windows 10 computer.

Thanks for reaching out, good questions! Only Gen 5 accounts are impacted by the new plan and price changes.
For SME accounts, some of them only get price changes; yours is the only one with a price reduction.

Hi Mac_Guy, It looks like you received some really helpful information so far, but I wanted to swing by and leave an official reference for you and anyone who has the same question. The amount of users who actually have the status meter desktop app installed was extremely low (less than 1% of our over 1 million subscribers). This ended up utilizing resources we felt we could better use developing new and improved tools. This URL will explain more, but to make it easier for others to see, I will paste the contents here: Notice: The Usage Meter has been retired. The Usage Meter (formerly Status Meter) has been retired. Please discontinue use and uninstall this tool. The Usage Meter will no longer be supported by HughesNet Customer Care and is not available for download. However, there is great news! You can do all the things you did on Usage Meter (plus much more) on the HughesNet Mobile App and on myHughesNet.com. Simply download the Mobile App in the App store or Google Play to track data usage, purchase tokens and view your bill or visit myHughesNet.com. ------------------------ As others have mentioned, you can also avoid signing in to any website or app (as long as you are checking while on your HughesNet Wi-Fi connection) by browsing to www.systemcontrolcenter.com or http://192.168.0.1 . You can do this wired or wirelessly! Those links will take you to your HughesNet System Control Center which resides in your modem. This is where your old desktop Status Meter used to 'draw' the data usage information from. You can bookmark these pages and access them from virtually any device with a web browser. If you really want to get to that page fast, you can create a shortcut on your desktop on Windows: > Right click your desktop screen > Hover to "New", select the "Shortcut" option > Type in one of the addresses listed above > Click 'Next' > Name your shortcut (you can change this later) > Click "Finish" A new shortcut will be made using your default web browser. Just double click it and it should take you right to your System Control Center homepage!

The HT2000w doesn't have the ability to be put into Bridge mode, or act as strictly a modem. On top of that, like Mark said, if you are a residential customer, you are behind a Double-NAT, port forwarding will serve absolutely no benefit. The requirements to be able to do port forwarding on Hughesnet are as follows. 1: Have a Business Account 2: Request Static IP services during signup, if they are still available that is. 3: Recognize that the HT2000w is a combo unit without the option to bridge - you will be forwarding ports more than once, once at the HT2000w, and once again at your Edge Router. You have to be aware, the HT2000w has limited options for port forwarding. You can read more here, but it is a guide for if you do meet all the criteria.

Yeah... You're going to need a business account, as well as request Static IP... Be aware that termination costs on SME accounts are twice that of residential service, and the service it self is more expensive... I strongly suggest you get setup with a webhost, would be far faster for end clients, and probably cheaper in the long term than hosting via an SME account. I only do it because, "why not?".

I've been in the area for a long time and so far, no new towers. I guess in my area people like living the paleolithic way. 🙂 But in a pinch I can drive 20 minutes and get Verizon 4G, which I know a lot of people who live in remote areas can't do at all, as they're much more isolated.

I started with a VIC-20 and actually used it as a computer rather than just for Omega Race... Modified and upgraded it enough to keep using it early into the Internet era, accessing indirectly while CompuServe still had command-line interface, also through other boards. Maybe remembering 300bps modems helps me cope with the shortcomings of Hughesnet better than some folks seem to do... Finally lept out of the stone age with a Macintosh 68030, then an iMac 333, then an eMachines tower (along with a Dell Inspirion laptop for the wife), then the current HP slimline tower (along with assorted Android devices).. I was just thinking that my current desktop has 7,400x the processor, 3.3 million x the RAM of my first one... But I still don't have a robot butler or flying car!!!!

Things you should look into and check... 1 - signal strength at both the chromecast and iphone 2 - What and how are you casting to the Chromecast? Using a special app? A media player on your phone? Chrome on your phone? 3 - Is the phone, and chromecast on the same wifi network? 4 - Is the filetypes supported by your phone? Do they play fine on there? 5 - Is the app you using, possibly trying to direct stream to Chromecast? If so, is the file type properly supported, and at the right resolution for your Chromecast?

If while trying to delete the HughesNet usage meter and it shows that it is unable to delete due to the file being in use then go task manager and close all processes for HughesNet usage meter and then delete the HughesNet usage meter folder.

If you are trying to find the WAN side Static IP for your terminal, you can browse to http://www.systemcontrolcenter.com/#!/home/information when connected to the terminal, and see a field for the IPv4 address. That will be the address that outside connections need to connect to, to get into your LAN. You can find more information on my personal website (which happens to be hosted behind an SME terminal, so it *might* be a bit slow if you aren't blocked by my firewall). https://chucksbasix.com/2017/10/12/hughesnet-ht2000w-port-forwarding/ Also, yeah, can't really support SME customers here, the site was designed for residential customers... But hey, something that I can at least throw out there. 🙂 Also, yes, we are essentially double-natted if we don't have a static IPv4 address. Websites and outside services may think we are always double-natted if WAS (Web Acceleration Server) is enabled. Note: This information applies only for SME customers with an HT2000w... If you are a larger customer, such as an enterprise or managing cellular networks, your equipment may be very different and will require a call into business support...

If you visit http://192.168.0.1 in your browser, you should see a screen that has a few charts, below the circular charts, it will state when your allowance resets. Allowance resets don't always mirror when the billion period starts.

MacBooks have a metal case and are fairly resistant to static electricity. That's a good thing because my running socks cause all sorts of static on carpet. I'm constantly zapping something.
