@Desert73   While 20 gigs seems 'impossible' to go through in a single day, depending on your activities, it actually is very possible to use this much data in a single day.   For example, many of the Xbox One S digital games require downloading from Microsoft..and many of these games are HUGE. Call of Duty WWII, by itself, is some 54.95 GB...even Trivial Pursuit  is a whopping 821.48 MB.    If your streaming several movies and/or watching hours of OnDemand video, this will also add up to a huge amount of data.   A Windows 10 Update will run you anywhere from 1-2Gigs.   While these are obviously just examples  that I've listed above, do you think that it is possible that you downloaded content today not fully realizing the sizes of those downloads? ... I'm new to Huges Net and Gen5, my router is setup with my PC in a room at one end of the house, the house is approximately 1700 sq ft.single floor.   I like to use Roku streaming devices and the device that is fartherest from the router is at the other end of the house, this device rceives a weak signal just as it did with my previous ISP.   When I realized that the HT2000W router contained the ability to transmit 2.4GHz and 5GHz I decided to replace my old TPlink extender and install a dual band range extender. The one I chose was the Belkin F9K1106, I dont know what other peoples experiences of this extender are but it works fine for me and cost under $20. The extender configuration took just 10 min with the quick start sheet they provide. Both frequencies went from weak (unusable) to strong/excellent with the extender placed halfway between the router and fartherest point. hope this helps   ... View more

Had a tech out today to fix the 12.7.1 error and transmit crap, new modem and connections and sat head and about an hour after he left, the same crap, something is up at Hughes that they will not admit to, data lost way too fast and **bleep** about bad weather and line of sight are total **bleep**. adjusting your dish yourself since it voids warranty... We'll pretend we didn't see anything. Understandable you would want to do this since it would take a while for the tech to come out. Re-reading the first reply from Asus. Appears that they have identified the issue with the firmware as being the modem is acting as a router so they ask you to turn off the router feature. Not familiar with how a DSL or cable modem handles this - live to far in the sticks to have that type of service. I believe your theory maybe correct and Asus has not figured out how to manage the issue with the firmware. Thanks for the tip on the USB features - more of a curiosity than a need. Was successful with the old firmware doing backups with the Seagate drive. Most likely will do backups with external drives attached to each computer. ... View more

Euni, That sounds like a browser related issue, perhaps a "timeout" error. I would suggest downloading and installing another browser .... Firefox, Opera .... dare I say it .... Chrome. However ... HN as a "home page" is a data eater. It sounds like you are trying to access your email by "webmail" .... always a problem. I really suggest that you download and install Thunderbird as an email client. Usually getting email thru an email client is much smoother than web view. ... View more

Hello Timothy, We appreciate the post and would like to welcome you to the community! Seems like our community members have offered some great tips for you to look into. Seems that you also had some very good things already in place to help conserve data. I would definitely look into all the suggestions given. Especially Glasswire. Just remember each device will need it installed. Unfortunately it is not on mobile, at least I do not think. But most phones especially the G series from LG have great data management apps and settings built in with android.  For the computers take a look at this extension for all browsers, the one in the link is for Chrome however this is available on all other browsers as well except IE. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adblock-plus/cfhdojbkjhnklbpkdaibdccddilifddb The phones more recently have an ad-block browser available to them.
