Many web sites now use a ton of plugins, each requiring its own JavaScript module to be loaded. Many are internal to the site, some are external. The net result can literally be 100s of MB. Usually those things are cached in the browser. The first time it will fully load and cache it for later. After that you just get a 304 'not modified' code, skips it, and moves on to the next instruction. Possible that you cleared your cache or they updated their plugins at some point.

Yep, that bottom is falling out. First question has to be what definition is it streaming? You can turn off/pause Video Saving Mode and see how it works. Only thing is if streaming 480p and above, you'll eat through data quickly.

They did not tell me that a fax machine would not work. I told them I did work from the house and needed to fax. Now I am stuck with trying to figure out how to fax multiple pages (100) at a time through some other service or some other way. Not happy about this.

I just signed up. I went through Dish. They transferred me to a sales representative. We had a long discussion, some of it technical, and I decided to sign up. Before she let me say "I do", she read a long list of caveats including VPN service. I was then asked if I understood all the limitations and was willing to accept them. I go through a VPN to get to my work. I haven't had a problem and it has been no slower than the Verizon service I had in the past. I use web apps and check my email, but I don't try to edit documents, etc.

Hi Corrosive - your explanation is spot on, but as a customer, not acceptable. I *need* to have products like BlueIris work. Products that push to the cloud have their own special issues (like Nest and Amcrest). I guess I'm left with the question - What can H/N do to address this issue? Perhaps provide fixed IP addresses? I don't think I even knew they had a Pro plan. LOL. My plan was much faster than AOL and that was a good thing, but I had to learn a lot about the system to manage it efficiently, or the FAP hammer would fall often. There was a viral sound file around the Web about the other company, the one that makes it impossible for people to leave -- some guy actually recorded the conversation with the CSR; it was something else. The ISP is notorious for abysmal customer service and shady practices in billing. And they have a big chunk of the market.

Most likely one of the most Internet congested days of the year. Have no doubt HughesNet is not the only ISP having extreme slowdown today. Truthfully, satellite only compounds the problem. But servers and nodes everywhere are most likely maxed out.

Lol... Social media has certainly emboldened people to make comparitive assumptions, as well as use hyperbole and cliches in order to make truths out of folk stories: "RumInt is the new FactInt". (See, I just made up the term, FactInt. It's catchy. Think I'll keep it). Highly doubtfull that even half of the people complaining about dialup are old enough to even know what a 56k dialup modem was, let alone used one.

Over the months it had gone from practically no difference to it gradually dropping into the 30s, then 20s, then even the teens, but this drop was practically instant. Again, I'm still not that affected when doing most of the things I normally do, but it was interesting, nonetheless. Peak usage three months ago... Two months ago... One month ago... This month... Granted, these are hand picked, and there were tests once in a while that stuck out like a sort thumb, but these are more representative of what's "normally" happening during the given month. November was a little wild, with it going down, then up, then down, then WAY down.

I'm new to Huges Net and Gen5, my router is setup with my PC in a room at one end of the house, the house is approximately 1700 sq ft.single floor. I like to use Roku streaming devices and the device that is fartherest from the router is at the other end of the house, this device rceives a weak signal just as it did with my previous ISP. When I realized that the HT2000W router contained the ability to transmit 2.4GHz and 5GHz I decided to replace my old TPlink extender and install a dual band range extender. The one I chose was the Belkin F9K1106, I dont know what other peoples experiences of this extender are but it works fine for me and cost under $20. The extender configuration took just 10 min with the quick start sheet they provide. Both frequencies went from weak (unusable) to strong/excellent with the extender placed halfway between the router and fartherest point. hope this helps

I have been on the phone all day with Hughsnet's Home Tech Support. Hughsnet does not support VPN. Therefore cellphone network extenders do not work with their system. So either I carry two internet providers so I have the capability to connect our network extender or I find a different way to make phone calls. Not sure how we are going to go right now. But I spent a lot of money to get a service that doesn't cover our needs.
